Salaam all,

Once your fiance(e) or husband or wife, finally arrived...

Whether it was your first wedding ceremony, or second now that your sweetheart is in the US, did you decide to exchange wedding vows during your stateside ceremony? And if so, did you make up your own vows, or did you go the standard, regular route? Did you do the vows in English or in your SO's language? Or both? Did you find a way to combine an Islamic and civil ceremony?

Just curious for your thoughts and experiences...

We are planning for our civil ceremony soon, inchallah, and i'm looking for some ideas.......

Thanks for sharing!

Um, we changed them in a sense. We were short on time and chose to be married by a small-town, Southern judge at a courthouse; not much planning. But when the judge was having my husband repeat the vows, she started, "In the name of the Father..." I shot her a look and shook my head, and she stumbled and carried on without any religious reference until the end when she pronounced us husband and wife. I really wasn't expecting to need to remind a judge to keep the vows secular. One day in the future, we may choose to have a more spiritual ceremony that respects both our beliefs, and we may write our own vows at that point, but there are no plans in the works.
