For a more serious response to birth control, for short term something like the pill or ring are good options, if you intend to wait more than a year, an IUD is probably better as a long term deal (I've heard placing the IUD is very unpleasant but afterwards it's like it's not there). The key is both of these are easily reversed and once reversed won't have affected your chance of becoming pregnant.

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-to...ontrol-4211.htm for more info on all the birth control choices.

There is a CSC only thread, and a VSC only thread... but this is just the august thread, you get all the nuts in one thread this way...

Thanks Maliciant for taking your part in this discussion :) well i know the IUD is for women who have given birth already and yes they say its efficient if you can stand the pain...i was also reading stuff for this "patch" but looks like its the same like the IUD too, pills can have some side effects after using them for a long time, well anyone else?? :)

The pacific ocean, it's pretty effective birth control.

The Atlantic ocean works pretty good too.

I don't know, thinking about going on the pill because I get painful periods and I hear it helps with that too. But I don't like the side effects I've heard of.

I am using the pill now - Yasmin. I have tried another brand after I gave birth back in 2001 for only two months because gained so much weight, I was irritable and I had morning sickness all the time so I stopped and just switched to the rubber. After a while, I finally decided to go for the IUD in 2005. There is some degree of discomfort but it's not that bad. I have used it til end of 2007 because I developed sensitivity to copper like I would bleed for two months straight and then it would stop for two weeks and come back again.

When my IUD was removed, the doc suggested Yasmin because it's low dose estrogen and it has some added value which helps clear your complexion, does not trigger weight gain and you can almost not feel any bad effects. So I decided to try it. It's I think one of the high end pills available in the market, but I was desperate as I was having hormonal imbalance issues and was breaking out everywhere in my body adding to the effect of the IUD. Basically, I take it before I go to bed, so as if ever there would be any adverse effects like headaches, I would just sleep it off. True to it, I only had to adjust for a week of slight headaches and I have been using it for almost a year now. The pill also helps in ovarian cancer and you just have to add Vitamin D supplements to the mix to eradicate breast cancer. Today, I would promote Yasmin for free. :D I am a happy camper!

Thanks to the greetings guys. I just basically have been very active in VJ and that's I think how you gain star points in your membership. Wow, we are on page 106. Am I proud!

I was wondering how you get these changes in your membership? also probably the time you have been a member is an influence? Congrats Gold member!

Ouch that IUD mmm i'm coward so I'm not getting that!, now I have one more thing to worry about :(

How long do you have to take the pill before it makes an effect?

Cause right now I'm not taking anything but I want to go for his interview and I don't want to get pregnant! how early should I start taking it? I still have some Femcon Fe that are not expired (they are chewable)

:help:

The doc's advise was to finish one full pack before getting confident that it's takling effect. That was one of the primary concerns coz believe it or not, historically, the pill was given to women who desire to have babies. They are to take it for a period of 6 months and a sudden stop would be a baby boom. :)

Good thing though that my fiance's not here when I started with it, otherwise, that would have been a pain. You should have time. Yasmin only has 21 pills and by the time you get to the 3rd week, you are safe. :) She also recommended the patch if the pill didn't feel good, but now I am very happy with what I have so I should be fine.

Good luck!

Donna-Marie: That would be the depo provera shot, I like the idea of the convenience and not having to worry about forgetting, but there are some serious side effects that increase with long term use, and of course unlike a pill which you can quit immediately when you find a side effect you don't like, you get the shot and you have to ride it out, like it or not. It also tends to cause longer term fertility issues, up to a year after the last shot should wear off etc.

The effective date of most birth control is dependant on when your last period was, probably as a result of the relationship between ovulation and periods (there is considered a safe zone after periods when pregnancy is typically not possible so it gives the birth control a chance to take effect before the next egg becomes available). There are two forms of IUD btw, the copper one (which apparently HD had and had issues with) and another one which is hormonal. There are lots of choices since everyone has different reactions/preferences, which means everyone should do the research to understand the differences.

You guys are wasting your money everyone knows:

Crossing your fingers and hoping you don't get pregnant works

You cannot get pregnant if the guy is on a plane 6 hours before cause of the altitude.

You cant get pregnant on Sunday cause God is resting

You cant get pregnant if you cross the International Dateline (Thats just common sense)

Girls just jump up and down three times after sex works.

You cant get pregnant if the Yankees are on TV and its after the 4th inning (Its just science)

You cant get pregnant if it is after 11pm Eastern Standard Time cause sperm goes to sleep (dont ask why its EST it just is).
