DS-156 Questions

Guys,

We just called today and my interview is scheduled for Sept 2, 2008 at 7 AM. Any other VJ'ers having their interview on that date?

We just have a few questions on how or what to answer in the DS-156 Form specifically the ff: Please feel free to add your own answers or comment if my answers are ok or not

Question 26

How long do you intend to stay in the U.S.?

I was going to answer "For as long as my fiancee, lives and stays in the U.S."

Question 27

What is the Purpose of your Trip?

I placed, "In order to marry and live with my fiancee"

Question 32

Do you intend to work in the U.S.?

"YES" "Self-Employed as a Lawyer". Well I am presently a lawyer here in the Philippines and God Willing, as soon as my K1 Visa is granted, I get to head to California and be with Claudette, take the BAR and practice in the U.S.

Any other tips would be highly appreciated Guys!

please try to read sheriff uling's K1 visa guide, it contains lots of useful informations and examples from getting the NOA2 up to POE.

I agree with all of the above. I would imagine those are the standard answers they get from all on the K-1.

Another question re the DS-156.

My whole family (mom, 2 younger brothers 1 sister) applied for a B-2 Visa in order to go on vacation in 2000 (my dad already had a B1 at the time). All of them were given 10 year multiple entry-exit B-2 Visas But I was denied a B-2 Visa (Visitor for Pleasure) since I was just a fresh law graduate at the time and had no significant assets or ties to the Philippines according to the Interviewing Official.

One of the questions in Number 38 specifically asks "Have you ever been refused admission to the U.S., or been the subject of a deportation hearing, or sought to obtain or assist others to obtain a visa, entry into the U.S., or any other immigration benefit by fraud or willful misrepresentation or other unlawful means?"

I answered "NO" since my understanding of the question is that the refusal of admission to the U.S. was because of fraud or willful misrepresentation. Since the basis of my denial was due to "lack of ties to the Philippines", there was no fraud or willful representation on my part. Am I correct in my assumption and understanding of the question? And does my denial for a B-2 Visa in 2000 pose a problem with securing a K1 Visa?

My understanding of the question is that "refused admission to the US" refers to refusal at the US point of entry. You successfully obtained visa, fly to the US but was not able to go past immigration @ point of entry and was sent back home.

There is an another item in DS 156 that deals specifically with visa denial, Q#31 to be exact.

And No, previous B2 visa denial will not pose any problem. There has been a number of K1 applicants who were previously refused tourist visa but they didn't encounter any problem during interview. I know of some who are already in the US on K1.
