Police Certificate in Ecuador

Hi.

I have a question for all of you who are filing/have filed for the CR1 visa in Ecuador.

My husband and I are preparing the DS230 packet for the NVC.

I know we need to get the certificado de antecedentes personales.

My question is related to whether we need one for each provincia where he has lived since the age of 16 for more than 6 months? Or from each city? Or since the police system is nationally connected is one of those certificados sufficient for the entire country?

I just spoke with my congressional rep's office and they contacted NVC on my behalf to inquire about the police certificate and Ecuador. They advised that only one certificate is necessary and applicable for the entire country.

Just wanted to update this thread for any other folks going through the Ecuadorian consulate.

Make sure that when you arrive for your interview that your police record has not yet expired. It is only valid for 3 months. We submitted it to NVC with the DS-230 requirements and thought nothing of it again knowing that it was being sent directly to the Consulate with our CR-1 packet. When we arrived at the interview the first clerk to interview us asked if we'd brought a new one (up to date) with us. We had not and I quickly pulled out a copy of the police certificate from my files (copies of everything mailed and received from USCIS and NVC during this whole process) to check the date, while the clerk was pulling out the original from our file. The certificate was good for exactly one week more, so we were in the clear. Had our interview fallen just one week later, it would not have been valid and we would have had to get another. (we ended up having to get another one due to the DHL robbery, but that's another story...)

How far in advance your interview is scheduled is completely out of your control. Just be sure to check that the police record expiration date isn't before the interview!
