Importing Car

So it's almost time :D And I just want to know if there's any other form I need to fill out or whatever to import my car with me other than the compliance letter I already have. Just trying to make sure everything is done so that I can relax as much as possible for the long drive.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry....can't help. I have my compliance letter and  didn't do anything with it when I came through the POE. Suppose I'll have to go back and do that. Maybe next week while I'm in Mackinaw City, I'll drive the 40 minutes to the POE and do that. :bonk:

If you call customs and border patrol they can probably tell you about a closer POE. . .I called because I was 700 miles from the entry point we took (they didn't give us all three of the clearance forms) and had to go back to any POE to get the extra forms filled out. . .my local airport had one.

:help: Ok so I am very worried. When I crossed with my GM compliance letter (in May 2007), the customs folks did not ask for it, nor did they care about my list of goods. They were mostly concerned with my K1 Visa. The problem is that I sold my car 2 months ago, and gave the new owners my compliance form, the Ontario registration, etc.. Unfortunately, the new owners just called me and the state of Utah will NOT register it because they don't have the customs information!! What information are they talking about?? I have that compliance letter .. what else do I need .. and where/how do I get it at this stage in the game?? The neared land border is quite far away from me. PLEASE HELP!! :help:

I crossed the border with my car without the compliance letter (they never asked for it). But they did give me a form that I was told to give to the State of Texas when I registered my car later on in the US.

It's a CBP Form 7501. Has my name, US address, vehicle and VIN #, as well as the same stamp they put in my I-94. Underneath my vehicle and VIN it says "Entered for personal use under K-1 visa, duty free importation."

I'd phone up the border and give them your K1/I94 info as well as your vehicle and and VIN. See if they can fax the form to you. If you have a local customs office, give them a shot.

The compliance letter just says that the car is legal to import into the US. The 7501 form is the one that actually says you have physically imported your car across the border.

The above link details the other required forms in order to import a car to the USA in a document. Thought I would put in it in here so if someone searches on this topic they will find the info. The below link has the additional forms to be completed and more info
