Change of Address during visa process

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and looking for advice on a rather complicated moving situation.

My boyfriend and I live in France. I am American and he is French. We have been living together for the past year and I am now being sent back to the US (NYC) for my job. Luckily, my boyfriend has found work in Montreal so we can be a little closer together than if he were to stay in France.

We want to submit paperwork for a Fiance visa before he moves to Canada (appx October 1st). However, he will not have a permanent address until at least November since he will be in employee housing during the first month of employment.

My question is how do we handle his address in the documents/forms?

- Do we include his prior french address until the moment he has a new permanent Canadian address?

- Do we include his parent's permanent address so that any mail could get forwarded to him in Montreal?

- Should we do a kind of 'change of address' that would include his canadian employer's address instead of a personal address?

I would assume that the US would be interested to know that he has left France and began working in Canada, but i'm just not sure how they need to be informed.

Thank you in advance for any ideas/thoughts you may have.

All the best,

Sara

Hi Sara,

I'm pretty much in the same situation, a few month ahead.

I'm french and my fiancé his american. I live in Niger so we started the process putting my address here. we got NOA1 in May and we are now waiting for NOA2. given the current processing times it's pretty much impossible to finish the process in Niger (my contract here ends late August). I've called the consulate here to ask them what we shall do. they were very nice but not so sure what to advice.. cause it all depends on when the notice comes and they can't do much about it..

anyways, they eventually adviced (but that is not an official advice) to wait last minute till I leave niger and then make the transfert calling the appropriate service (depend where we our case is then).

We decided to wait for NOA2 to come (we don't wanna interfere in the process by asking them to change the country). As soon as we get it (likely to be end of August, = right when the consul said it would be smart to transfer our case) he will contact the vermont center (or the national office if it has already be sent there) to ask them to change my country of residence and put my mums address. if I leave before NOA2 comes we will still make the change then.

I would say the important thing is to START the process ASAP cause it takes ages...

so I would start with the address in France (I don't think the address matters, since by the time it process he will be in canada), and then change it to the canadian one (either the employer's one or the new address. given the processing times u may easily wait to get his permanent address..).

in any case u can call your center and ask them what they think is the best!

I let u know how the change of country works when we do it..

bon courage!! :)

I'd submit the paperwork for your K-1 while you're in France, and use his parents address in Montreal for him. He will have explained in his paperwork that he's employed for such and such company, and is now currently in France, but the form will be filled out with is Canadian address. They don't know or have to know that this isn't maybe going to be his address. It's a "home base" for him, and he'll be assured of getting his mail. He's going to be in the Montreal area anyway come November. The NOA1 and NOA2 will be coming to YOU anyway, so he won't get any paperwork until the the Consulate in Montreal send him Package 3, which won't be before November anyway, so he won't be missing any mail in the interim.

Best of luck on your journey! It will be nice that you're not that far away from each other until you can be together always in the US.
