Hi everyone,

Haven't posted here in quite some time, but I do log on once in a while to see what's happening. I'd like to congratulate all those that have received their visa and my thoughts and prayers are with all those awaiting.

I'm planning my next trip to Morocco which will be in October. My fiance and I would like to go to Agadir this trip, but it's quite a distance from the city he lives in and I really don't want to spend so much time on the road. Royal Air Maroc does have flights from Rabat to Agadir. My fiance has never been on a plane before so I'd like to surprise him with tickets, but before I buy them, I have a really dumb question. Other countries are so different from the US, so I'm wondering if he will need anything in particular to be able to fly within Morocco. A passport? A visa? An ID card? If anyone here knows the particulars of a Morccan flying within Morocco, please let me know. I don't want to spend the money on airfare if he's going to have to have some sort of written permission.

Thanks

I have a home in Agadir. He won't need anything other than his ID to fly within Morocco. Have a fun trip!

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on where to stay and what to do during the month of October in Agadir?

Agadir is nice, I stayed at a hotel right across the street from the beach, I can't think of the name of the hotel right now, It was near where the Mc Donalds, KFC , and Pizza Hut are on the beach, pretty sad huh

There is a Club Med there, but it looked a little shabby from the outside. have you been to Ifrane its amazing, and Fes , I stayed in Agadir three days i had enough at that time,

Where my husband lives is really nice too, El Jadida, it has a wonderful beach Sidi Bouzide, any way I don't know about in country flights, we always travleed by train and bus

Good luck to you

I am hoping to go in October as well

Have you found any good deals? contact me, if you like

Kathleen

thkcmp: Where is your fiance from?

I flew once from Casa to Oujda with my husband (it was his first flight at the time) and all he needed was his ID.

In case you didn't know: most hotels will not let unmarried couples stay together in a hotel room in Morocco. I have heard that some of the nicer/more exclusive (like 5 star) hotels do not require it (we always tried to do things relatively inexpensively, so that wasn't an option for us).

A way around that is to rent an apartment (often cheaper, anyways).

Enjoy your trip--I bet October is a wonderful time to be there!

Good point!

On our trip last year, we went to a hotel in Rabat. We had passports with same last names, bank cards with same last names, and the guy still questioned if we were really married (he had been in trouble before because some people had used his hotel to shoot porn!!!). It was pouring rain outside and we had walked to the hotel from the train. I was drenched and tired. I could tell he was giving Omar a hard time so I said to hiim in French, I am wet and tired. You have your proof. now give us a room or we are leaving....He gave Omar and astonished look and handed over the key.

we got a a hotel by showing our passports and marriage certificate... pretty easy. I am told if I wasn't in hijab and we were tourist we wouldn't be required to show proof of marriage. But whatever.... have fun.

The OP is not married so she can't show a marriage certificate...

AFTER we were married, my husband and I were not allowed to stay at one hotel together because we were not carrying our marriage certificate  (Simo left it with his mom for safekeeping). We had passports with the same last name and even US driver's licenses with the same name and address. I think that the man at the desk was rather conservative.

I can't imagine that everyone from Morocco carries around their marriage certificates. Does Morocco have something equivilent to the family book/family ID in Jordan?

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Yes, Morocco also has a family book, though we do not have one yet. From what I understand, emigrants can get a family book from the Moroccan consulate, but your marriage needs to be considered a "Muslim marriage," and we had ours performed by a judge. There may be some ways around that (I think that if there were two Muslim witnesses at the wedding it is considered ok, but I'm pretty sure that we didn't have that at our little ceremony).

I think we will get a family book after the baby is born. I have a feeling that this issue could be easily resolved if my husband was to try to get a family book in his ancestral village--knowing people certainly helps get things done there!

Agadir is a tourist town. They cater to foreigners and have many european hotels that don't hassle you about whether you are married. I wouldn't worry about hotels so much, BUT the law there does look out for Moroccan men possibly harrassing the foreign women.

Sorry to derail but about the family book. If you did not have an Islamic marriage you have to get your marriage certificate translated to Arabic. If you did not have 2 Muslim witnesses you are more or less not considered married. I would suggest that you call the consulate as soon as possible to straighten all this out. It can take a really long time. We didn't register my husband, our marriage or our sons birth within the first year. It is a loooong process now.

Mrs. Amera, so what can you do about registering now? A long process is not so appealing, at least until/if we decide to spend any significant time in Morocco.

VW--huh?
