Confused! This is packet 3 related

So people are telling us that we only need to submit the DS forms with packet 3, right? We were looking over the papers (didn't get that damn packet yet), then we noticed the DS-156K says that birth certificates must be attached, along with financial support papers & whatever. Is that really necessary or can those documents be provided at the interview? His birth certificate with me, as his parents didn't want him losing it.

We have a child together, but his name isn't on the birth certificate. DS-156K wants names of his children & their birth certificates as well. So have we gotten ourselves in a bit of a problem, you think?

This whole thing is just one big headache after another. Already having a grand ol' time with the embassy people over a simple address change & packet resend.

Someone please help me out & show me the way to relief, if any.

Once you get P3 it will all become much clearer. P3 will instruct you to send in the forms they list. They will tell you not to send in any of the supporting documents such as the birth certificate. You take those with you to the interview.

I feel your pain. The embassy lost my package, it was a very stressful time. Just keep with it, you will get there.

Goodluck!

My heart feels to be sinking deeper & deeper everyday. If he didn't have to move house, he would of had this packet 3 last week. They had already sent it out, before we had a chance to notify them of new addresses. I managed to get the email code off a guy when I called last week...but this week the USC hot line refuses to give me the code, because their dept is meant for blah blah blah. I guess I got lucky to get a nice guy the first time. None of my fiance's friends' phones works through calling the embassy either. Just feels like we've hit the dead end. He sent snail mail, hoping that will finally get them to resend our packet...but we'll see. I went on skype to call the UK number, spent $15 for 4 minutes to speak to the embassy & got NOTHING out of it...we don't want to even attempt that anymore.

Now the question of kids have come again on their forms & they want certificates this time. I shouldn't have mentioned her on his petition, but I didn't think it was a big deal at the time. Now I have a birth certificate without his name & don't know if that will give them an excuse to delay us at the interview.

Sorry for the vent, but I have been in a million pieces lately.

Can the DS forms be sent before we get packet 3? or is there some sort of special stuff in this packet we have to wait for?

I read somewhere on VJ (only once!) when someone sent out the forms before they even got their packet......not sure how that worked out tho.

It is my understanding that you have to get your LND number...i had everything ready to sent and put it in the mail as soon as we got our LND case number...which you will also need to book the medical. Not sure how things are now...

Also, we only sent in DS-230, Part I, and the checklist once we got the Packet 3. They wanted us to swear that we had everything before giving us the interview...at that point we got our interview date and all was smooth sailing.

You will get through it. We also moved just before receiving packet 3. I called, got the code, and emailed them...no response via email, but they mailed us at the new address relatively quickly.

I would contact your local county clerk to see how (and if) you can go about adding the father to the certificate for your child. I don't think the father needs to be present in most cases.

From what I understand & been told by my locals...he has to be here to sign any birth certificate stuff. I will call them tomorrow & confirm that though. I guess we can do the very expensive international DNA test.

Blah!

Thanks for the replies. :)

i think i am just going to risk it & not mess with dna testing right now. what's the worst thing that can happen...visa not approved until dna test is done?

give me some scenarios. :s lol

would just tell him to come visit after he sends packet & then we can mess with the birth certificate...but this late in the game would also be risky, no? he doesn't have a job anymore or family in the same area...so strong ties would be a tough one!

apparently, dna testing (online ordering) can be done in a few days...inquiring if it's the same for international though...awaiting their reply!

You can get the DNA test for free if you go on either Maury Povich or Jeremy Kyle :lol:

lol. hush!

I found out by a fellow VJ'er that no dna test is going to be needed, since she's with me. :P

My fiance got his packet today. Thank god! Does he answer YES on the questions that ask "Do you intend to work in the States?" ... because it has a explanation box for him to put in the employer's name & address. We figured he couldn't look for a job until he receives his resident card...so what does he put down then? Someone clarify this for us asap, please. He's going to print off the papers tomorrow & hopefully have them sent in by Monday. We're aiming for a september interview, so hopefully it'll work out ok. :)

Still cant find a co-sponsor though, which is upsetting that our extended family is too selfish to help out. And my dad sponsored most of them when they came over here! They've really disappointed my father about this situation. He wants to help us so bad. My dad can't sponsor anymore though, because he doesn't make enough money anymore. ;p
