The other day I got called a "mrs" and I started laughing like.......like the immature person I am.

:(

It's been almost 10 months and I still don't feel married. People have referred to me as "Mrs. B________" a couple of times, and it feels so unreal.

I didn't change my name after my first marriage, but after I was pregnant thought I should as it did then anyway, cause a lot of confusion with both the health and school systems when I had kids. Anyway, I made it a hyphenated name. I went professionally just by my maiden name. Someone mentioned how they could do this professionally...just do it! I mean my DL, paycheck, tax forms etc. was in my married hyphenated name, but my business cards, my letterhead, everything related to my work was in my maiden name. In Canada anyway, I was also allowed to cash checks, make deposits...well, kind of do anything with either/or names.

After I seperated, I went back to my maiden name. Just like getting a married name, I just went back to it. Reapplied for new ID with my birth certificate, sometimes explaining that I didn't want to use my married name anymore.

Funny how I agonized over this question about names after marriage before during and after my first, but there was no question as to this marriage. I don't know how then, or now, I made a decision, but there really wasn't any decision, I just took Gene's last name! A rather long, always mispronounced, Polish name. I love it!

I wish everyone was a Ms. just like their husbands are Mr. regardless of marital status.

However, I wish we had another polite equivalent of 'sir', as I was frequently frustrated in customer service when trying to be polite with women who got all pissy when I called them 'ma'am'. It seems so disrespectful to call them by their first name, and calling them "Ms. SuperLongLastNameThatICan'tPronounceEasily" wasn't helpful either. :(

my married name is constantly mispronounced ... it has a LL in it which in Spanish is usually kind of pronounced like a y sound.. but of course most people pronounce it like a LL sound :P

One of the things that I discovered here that I find quite nice is that people in offices, or services address me as "Miss Kathryn". Miss used in such a way is apparently used regardless of whether the woman is married or not and dates back to the time of the Old South. I was surprised to find it still in existance, but it is. I don't mind Ma'am, I still find it unusual to be called "Mrs." (even after 4 years), but it is a pleasant surprise to be called "Miss Kathryn" by women or men alike. Not sure if it would be understood or well-received in another georgraphic area or not.l

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I currently use a combination of my maiden name and my former married name. My job involves people that I don't want to be able to find me outside of work, so I have continued to use the old married name for anything work-related.

I am looking forward to taking my guy's last name when we marry... I am thinking it's going to surprise people to find that this person with an Hispanic last name is a fair Swedish-looking person :D

I agree with the Mrs. thing though... makes me feel old :P
