hey all/ has anyone try calling the foreign us consulate to request an earlier interview date. Or has anyone asked them if they can pick up the passport with visa after interview rather than having it delivered.

I Sent an e-mail last week to the Kiev Consulate asking if we could pick up passport in person....got an ODD response. here it is: "Dear Dr. William Steinbach:

Thank you for your inquiry of July 03, 2008. Even if your wife's visa is approved during the interview her passport cannot be returned to her the same day.

We hope this information will be helpful."

what do they mean "EVEN IF your wife's visa is approved"??????? . sounds kinda like they prejudged there...lol chalked it up to someone who's native language is NOT English.

Dont worry, they are not prejudging, they just dont want to be held liable by giving any suggestion or answer. Hopefully everything will go fine with your wife's interview and she will be with you soon.

Thanks and to better answer YOUR question, go to the "Embassy Info" and simply e-mail them. However, include name of petitioner AND beneficiary and NVC case number, they claim it could be a while to get a response, Kiev said up to 10 days, but it was never more than 2 days for me when i e-mailed them. To telephone may be a little different Embassy to Embassy, example, ours in Kiev, you have to purchase a "PIN" by credit card, it allows you, i think 8 minutes for $12. This allows you to call the "call center" and ask questions. HOWEVER, to call and get this pin i was provided an TOLL FREE number to call the embassy from the U.S.

hope this helps a little.

Dr. Bill

They mean exactly what they say. That's the whole reason behind the interview. It's not a paper decision. A visa can't be approved without an interview. It's up to the adjudicating officer. This has nothing to do with someone's whos first language is not English. That's a very disparaging comment to make.

Carla don't try to make something out of my comment that ISN'T there!! read carefully It said " EVEN IF" it IMPLIES that chances are not good upon first glance!!!!. It implies that an approval was not likely. example: my children want to go to burger king...i could possibly say something like " EVEN IF i wanted to get dressed and take you, i probably wouldn't allow it because it is bad for you" 2 hurtles, they wouldn't get passed the first one.

GROW UP AND READ THE POSTS, RATHER THAN JUST FEELING THE URGE TO SPOUT A COMMENT...EVERYBODY ELSE KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND DID'NT JUMP ON ME FOR MAKING THE COMMENT!!!

AND, my comment is NOT disparaging!!! there is nothing wrong with what i said it is not condescending nor is it racist . My native language is NOT Russian, i make mistakes ALL the time!! daily, hourly, i learned more from making mistakes than ANY textbook or tutor. The person who wrote the response used a very INFORMAL statement, especially for a government e-mail. a better response would have been something like: "This consulate does not offer same day pick up of the visa following interview" Consulates hire local workers, it is a fact. so my comment is a safe assumption.

March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !

Ali,

Email the ISB embassy, they usually reply w/in a day or two. Or your spouse may call them, bwt 12-3pm, try callin' around 2:30, they will inform you if it's possible to pickup passport.

As for expediting the interview date, it is unlikely it will be granted, because those in line before you should be served before you. In rare cases i have read they do, if it's life and death situation. I attempted to get an earlier date (our interview was after 4 mons of packet 4, but i was told unless it's life n death situtaion such requests are not considered!) Now that process is done @ NVC, it is much faster, and i m sure your spouse's interview is not as delayed as ours.

Good lucks w/ur journey n duas

Yesterday is history, Tomorrow's a mystery. Today is a gift; that'swhy they call it "the present".

Oh my word...you're on the edge of a breakdown it sounds like! You're a Doctor? A Doctor of what? You need to seriously examine how you speak to people every day if how you responded to me here on VJ is any indication. You are the most condescending person I've ever come across here on VJ. You are in serious need of counselling.

You asked a question and Carla answered it correctly. Not sure what your problem is, but I think you need to take a deep breath and calm down.

ETA - I also sent a few emails to the Embassy in Montreal - where I know they speak English just fine - but got strange responses back. I think it has more to do with them not really reading them then not being being native English speakers.

I have to second that, and unfortunately for being a doctor, you sound like you could use somehelp yourself before you have a major breakdown. It it not needed here to be rude to people when they are offering their help.

And I doubt the embassy would ever send you an e-mail the way you talk to your kids...
