True, it needs to be notarized on Form I-864A, this form is for when your co-sponsor lives in the same house as you. However if they do not live in the same house as you then it does not because each I-864 is completed by both people seperate.

Danyel, where were you reading this, can you provide a link? OOO where did you find this information?

Some editions of the Form I-864 and Form I-864A include a jurat to be completed by a notary or by a consular or immigration officer to show that the person signed or acknowledged the signing of the Form I-864 or I-864A under oath. The Form I-864 and Form I-864A, however, provide that they are signed “under penalty of perjury.” Thus, 28 USC 1746 (which deals with the legal effect of unsworn statements) makes it unnecessary for Form I-864 and Form I-864A to be signed in the presence of or certified by a notary public or an Immigration or Consular Officer. Note that the jurat has been removed from the January 15, 2006 edition of the Forms I-864 and I-864A. Form I-86EZ is a newer form, and therefore never had the jurat.

It is in the instructions under the where to file section.

Where to File :

Should be filed with Form I-864, Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act.

The signatures on the I-864A must be notarized by a notary public or signed before an immigration or consular officer.

Hi to all,...

I did send I-864 and I-864A and I didn't notarized form I-864A,Called NVC and they said everything is fine they reviewed my documents and just send me RFE about proof between me and household member(in my case me and my father,I filled I-864 my father I-864A and they wanted my birth certificate as a proof that I am son of household member, that's why they send me RFE).

I think that I-864A don't need to be notarized,BUT I say but, if you want to be sure you go ahead and just notarize I-864A you won't be making mistake by that if you notarized it.

GOOD LUCK AND FAST APPROVAL TO YOURS CASES,....

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they have conflicting information out there

Incorrect,

And USCIS has the nerve to judge what people send in if there is just a NA where none should have been yet they cant even update their site to provide accurate information.

Oh and where do you find that manual on their website from just going through the home page. That information on what they accept and what they use would be great if we had that stickied somewhere, most of the questions on here wouldnt even need to be asked.

You are mistaken about many questions not being asked if info is posted, many, many, MANY times questions get asked even though the answers are in the FAQ, WIKI, and Guides.

USCIS has a search function, the answer is found by plugging in "I-864A" and do som digging, "Enforceable Affidavits of Support.[Revised as of 06/27/2006]" sort of jumps out at me.

Either way, its a shame that USCIS makes you double check to see if the information they are providing is correct or not. If we have to second guess everything that they say or post it really shows how behind they are on many things. With the filing instructions it should be clear and up to date. There really should be no need to dig for that information. If the instructions say that it needs to be notarized why would someone search any more about it when it very clearly notes that it does need to be notarized.
