Hi Everyone,

I have my K3 interview scheduled for next week, the 15th. However, due to work conflicts I had to cancel my medical and they can't reschedule me until July 23. So I emailed the consulate this week and told them and asked to have my interview pushed back as well.

I haven't heard back from them yet and getting a little anxious. Does anyone know if you reschedule do they send another appointment letter or will they reply in the email? If I don't hear back from them by the 15th should I go to my interview anyway to talk to them so I don't just miss it? Any advice for this would be much appreciated. My interview is in Vancouver.

Thanks!

I tried to reschedule my K1 interview in Montreal this past March. They told me the process was that they would cancel my interview, then I would go to the end of the line and begin the process of rescheduling my interview again. I decided to keep my original interview because I didn't want to get outside the process, nor did I want to gamble that my interview would be in another 6 months (which is what they told me the waiting period was at the time).

Also, when I requested to have my interview moved, they emailed me back explaining this (a week later). So, they didn't cancel it right off the bat ... they explained the situation to me and asked if I still wanted to cancel. I posed my requested cancellation as a question, rather than outright requesting an cancellation... not sure how you handled it. I can appreciate that it's hard to know what to do if you don't hear back from them before your interview date.

Perhaps you could go to your interview, show that you have your medical booked explaining that you had to cancel your original one, and they could conditionally approve you pending the receipt of your medical. Not sure if that would work. I don't have experience doing this, so I can't say that it would work or not, but if it was me I would do that rather than try to reschedule, given what they told me.

I hope this helps. :)

If you can, keep your originally scheduled appointment. They will interview you and get the basics done and give you a RFE for the medical. Once you submit the medical to them, they can approve your application and grant you the K-3. There have been cases where people have canceled - or that they thought they had canceled interviews - and found out later that they were recorded as missing their scheduled interview instead. It took some time and work to get their applications re-opened. So, let them know you will be at your interview after all, explain about the medical when you get there, and they will hold off making a decision until they receive the medical results - much, much better than waiting all over again.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the advice on my interview. You guys were right, I ended up going with everything but my medical and it was fine. I just have to email the consulate when I have my results and they'll give me a time to go back, which hopefully is soon! They gave me on of those RFE sheets saying I need my medical and they can't process the visa until then.

And to anyone who is stressing about the interview....just like everyone says it's not near as bad as you think. People are nice and just doing their jobs. Seems more like a routine then an interrogation!

I'm glad you got that straightened out, however it sounds like you already had an interview and they're making you come back?? How very annoying. You could have mailed them the medical, or had the doctor done that, and then the Consulate could have mailed you your visa after they received your medical. An extra trip not really needed. Hope you aren't too far!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Flames is right, I live in Vancouver. I actually work a couple blocks from the consulate so I told them it was no problem for me to come back.

But you're right I'm hoping I just have to go back to bring them the results and I don't have to go through the whole waiting thing again. But I'll do what I gotta do either way, lol.

In the past, people have just had to send in what they were missing. Maybe if your lucky, they can do everything on the same visit--talk nicely, lol, doesnt hurt to ask, all they can say is no and to come back later.

Well now that I think of it, the sheet they gave me says bring the medical results and an express post envelope so I'm guessing they'll mail the visa and won't make me come back for a third time.

The only thing that's making me worry is after my interview I saw the lady circle REFUSED on the paper (the one she had in front of her that listed the items we need to bring and if we had them or not) I asked her if everything was okay and if it was just because I was missing my medical and she said yes, but the whole refused thing is scary. I don't know if that means I"m going to have a whole other interview. That doesn't make much sense but....I wish I just could have had everything at once!!

The same thing happened to me. They had to circle refusal, and that was scary. I went and had my medical though and brought my medical in the next day. They didn't interview me all over again, they opened the test results, looked them over, and then told me that everything was fine. They took my passport and told me to come back the next day. You have nothing to worry about. It will be just fine!

I'm glad it worked out for you!

Regarding the refused part, when I was at my interview I asked if they could delay putting the visa into my passport because I wanted to travel to the U.S. for my parents 50th wedding anniversary prior to activating my visa and I was worried that they would make me activate my visa on that trip.

He told me he could do that but it would result in a soft refusal. When I wanted the visa, I would have to send them my passport to have the visa inserted.

I didn't like the sounds of any type of refusale, so I elected to get the visa and take my chances at the border, which worked out fine.

Anyway, he said I was approved, but if there's a delay they need to categorize it as a refusal. So, I guess that's a long way of saying that I don't really think you have anything to worry about. :)
