Visa!

280 days later, my husband has been approved for his CR-1 visa. It should arrive via mail in 7-10 days.

I am so excited, beyond words.

If anyone is interested in the details....

I attended the interview with him in Madrid, Spain. At first, the security guard wasn't going to let me in, until they realized I was an American citizen and petitioner of the visa. Then it was cool. We had to go through metal detectors and scanners (like the airport), got my purse thoroughly checked, and then they kept our cell phones while they gave me my purse back to go inside. There was a line of only 3 people to get our number at the receptionist. We arrived in the waiting room at 9 a.m. (interview was scheduled for 10 a.m.) Around 9:20 a.m., we were called up to the window for "first interview." Basically, we talked to a really nice guy who was just verifying that everything was in our package. None of the extra originals we brought (just in case) were needed. A new police certificate wasn't needed, either. Then we went back, and around 9:55 a.m., we were called up a second time, to a different window. This was to obtain my husbands fingerprints. He chatted with the same guy from earlier (who was supervising) about how many people they knew in common from my husband's place of employment. Of course, I don't speak Spanish, so I was freaking out that there was a problem with the fingerprints.... until my husband translated it all for me when we sat back down! Ha!

At about 10:15 a.m., we were called up again for the "second interview." This time it was a woman, who I observed earlier going through our file very carefully and making notes. She asked my husband a few basic questions: How did you meet, how long ago did you meet, how old is your wife's son, how old is your daughter, where will your daughter be living, where are you moving to, will you work for the same employer in the United States, do you know it's cold in minnesota (that made us all LOL), and really that was it. No additional evidence was asked of us. She then said we were approved, explained how the visa would arrive, the entry process into the United States, and what we had to do to remove the conditional residency next year.

It was so easy. I can't believe we were in and out in less than 2 hours.

The next countdown is entry date into the U.S. -> August 8, 2008! Unfortunately for us, it will only be a 2.5 week visit, as my husband has to go back to Madrid and finish his project. Hopefully he will arrive for good (with a job transfer) sometime in September. But this way, we can hopefully get the SSN and some other legal things taken care of before the permanent move.
