Lawny, no rule says you have to. And honestly, I wish I never changed my name with my first marriage, but I not going to change again. This has been my name for 14 years now - I'm not changing it again. Plus I want it to stay the same as my kids' name.

It's your personal decision.

I know plenty of people that haven't changed their last name - I think it's fairly common now a days - To me, it's a personal choice - Although according to DJ, I don't have a choice, lol - He said that if he could move to another country, the least I could do would be to change my name. If I want to move to JA, I can keep my maiden name!

Did you pick a wedding date yet?

Well, it was suppose to be July 23rd, but I have too much going. So, shooting for August 1st or who knows. I may just wait until Sept. 23rd (1-year to the day be met). He says that he's been waiting long enough for me to be his wie and he don't want to wait anymore.

Hi Trelawny, like everyone has mentioned, I think it's a personal thing. However, many still follow the traditional way of taking the husbands lastname. I decided to hyphenate both of our lastnames. It's LONG, but I myself dont want to just drop it. I'm so happy all went well for you and Hubby to be on the interview. When I read it, I was shock how the interview Lady was so disrespectful. But you stood up to them and triumph. You're good, lol. I couldn't do what you did. Well, Congrats again and I hope you have a beautiful wedding and a long/happy life together.

Thanks Tash ---

I think it's me being a big DADDY'S girl and wanting to keep my dad's lastname to tell you the truth. I'm more concerned with what Immigration may say. Just found out if I add my husband to my lease I'm going to have to pay the new rental rate...*kiss mi neck*

Please do not feel any way about not changing your last name. It is your choice. As long as your fiance is cool with the idea, I think that's fine. I don't know you, but it seems like you are very organized. In the event that you have an AOS interview, continue to keep your files in order. I'm sure the SO from Kingston placed a note on your file. It reads, "Nuh ramp wid that one!"

Trewlany, I did not change my last name. I am not going to change it offically, I will use his last name when it is appropriate, such as Christmas cards and invites to both of us. There is no law that says you have to change your last name to your husband, actually he can take your last name if he wants to.

Be Bless

Hey Lawney,

I have not changed my name either. I was but after seeing just how much work it seems to be I really am not up for all that just to have a name. I already go by the married name at appropriate times, but officially i am still my maiden name. My name is used alot at work and in life. People call me by my full name for some reason...ever since I was little, so changing it is like i BIG deal. Like changing my first name. I think once we have kids I am just gonna add Evans name to mine, but I'm not dropping it or hyphenating it. Sorta like Jada Pinkett Smith, and then our kids would just be Joe Smith or what ever. That way once we start the fam i wont be the only odd one without the common last name.

I did change my name legally. But, at work and on many things I had pre-marriage, I still go by my other name.

I don't think it makes a bit of difference.

Changing your name after marriage is a RIGHT not an obligation.

I will change my name, because it is important for my future husband and personally, it will make things a lot easier in the U.S. If I were to keep my maiden name, I'd have to be spelling it all the time and repeating the pronunciation so people could spell it right.

Some days I wish I hadn't changed my name for that very reason. My old last name was so easy, I never had to spell. Now, all the time.
