Hi VJ'ers,

Just want to ask after how many days could you get the receipt number after submitting I-130? I have found out that our papers were submitted not end of June but 3rd of July. It was sent through DHL express and delivered on 7th of July in Chicago Lockbox. :crying: I cannot check the USCIS online status without it.

The lawyer said it would take usually 3 weeks before USCIS could send the receipt. :bonk: Is this true? I have seen some timelines in here and saw that NOA1 was only after a week or so. Could you please help me figure it out? :help:

Thanks a lot.

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......

My husband received the NOA1 9 days after the I-130 was filed. Most people received the NOA1 in about 1-3 weeks

Don't panic yet, give it another week. :-)

Well being your dealing with a attny your process is going to be slower. Here is our time line:

04-12-08.........Married

06-11-08.........I-130 Mialed

06-13-08.........I-130 Received

06-18-08.........NOA1

06-20-08.........Touched

06-21-08.........Received NOA letter

06-23-08.........Check cashed on my birthday!

So as you can see having a lawyer has already slowed you down some. Everything has got to go through him before it gets to you. Just my 2 cents.

Got to love the fact my wife was preggy and even with a RFE @ NVC she was still here in under 5 months!

Thanks Leah... The thing is I want to know how could I check that NOA1 thing without receipt number. :crying:

rmncm... It is my husband's choice. The lawyer told him that USCIS will send a receipt on his e-mail as well. My husband is not the paper work type of guy so he hired a lawyer to do it for him. I just do not want both of us to argue anymore about this (hiring a lawyer thing). When did you get your receipt number? Thanks

I recieved mine on 6-21 when I recieved our NOA1 letter. It is on the back of your check when they cash it but they didnt cash my check till 6-23 so in our case, i received the letter first. Some see their checked cashed first.

Sorry that your husband isnt the paperwork kind of guy. I am not either, I build houses for a living but the paper work is so easy to do we decided to do it alone. This site is such a good resource and so much help is aviable its almost a no brainer lol. Good luck!

The only other way you can check your case status without the letter is to look at the check via your bank account if that was how it was done. I am not sure how a lawyer does it if you have to pay him or you pay the USCIS. https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

It is not just that "paper work thing". Honestly, my husband has this kinda procrastinating thing in him (not that much though) or maybe he is just more patient than I am. He does not want me to keep on bugging him about the results and all so he hired somebody for me (to bug). :P I will also follow up our case so I need these information. Thanks.. Good luck to you as well..

Don't even start me on "husband who procrastinates" :-)

The process will take a while, really no point getting all stressed up with it coz it doesn't help to move things along faster. Keep yourself busy learning about the next step and gather all the docs required for NVC process, time passes and before you know it, NOA2 will show up. :-)

CaNdiD wiTcH, to get NOA1, now-a-days, takes 10 days, to be precise...

Why didn't you hire me as your attorney, I would have charged $100 less than what you paid now  Now it is not possible, past is past... Anyway, I lost my money

Bottomline: I am not an attorney or any attorney's agent. I am a software guy... Software makes faster than attorney's paper filing and paper monitoring...
