I know there is also something that my husband uses for upset stomachs - it looks like a black seed...but I can't figure it out....Nigella seeds maybe..let me do some research.

ETA: Fenugreek Seeds

Yeah, there's a lady at my mosque who swears that these black seeds she has will cure me of anything... haven't tried it yet

i am going to have to google that one.. have no idea where to find such a thing lol

just for future knowlege to all, fenugreek from what i understand can give you a miscarriage. just since we are recommending them if this is true want everyone to know about it! i know fenugreek is a main ingredient in indian food and i think they say you can eat indian food bc the amt of fenugreek is so small but if you are talking about eating seeds or brewing them i would say be careful when pregnant.

my FIL is moroccan and he likes tea with something called "sheeba" which is like a fuzzy green leaf and "luisa" which is lemon verbena. sheeba might be the hebrew term but i think luisa is the arabic and hebrew term

Oooo I think i think i think i just may know what it was! There was a tea that my husband made for me when i was there and had an upset stomach... it is made with a slightly bitter tasting herb, a type of wormwood. It definitly did the trick for my tummy! I also was given cumin mixed in some water once for the same kind of upset stomach but didnt quite work like the wormwood tea did.

I actually meant to bring some home with me but then - i didnt even think, especially in my last few weeks there, about anything other than spending time with my hubby! :P

I dont know about its availability here in the states, but its probably available somewhere online at least, maybe check on some natural foods websites or whatnot!

Good luck!

In arabic the word for wormwood herb is called sheHa (She7a - الشيح ) sooo maybe thats what you were thinking of by the word "sheeba" ?

My husband says there is something he pronounces "sheeba" which is similar to mint. He doesn't think She7a is the same thing. But I haven't figured out what sheeba is. He did say it's good for an upset stomach.

I'm thinking it is verbena - that's what we use... You can def get that in tea bags. Hope you feel better soon.

that's it!!!!!! where do you find it!!!!!

I live in a very metropolitan city and the ONLY place I have ever found lemon verbena ie luisa is ordering a plant online and planting it. But it grows big and multiplies and you will have tons of luisa and I think it can be dried but I was too lazy to try. I forget where I have ordered it from, I didnt order it this year. I actually should check my pot graveyard I might have some growing behind my shed that has happened to me before I THINK i forget if luisa comes back. Anyway you can order it online and plant it your husband will love that.

I'm pretty sure you can get it at Whole Foods or some other natural foods store - particularly one that sells herbs in bulk. You may not find it in a pretty box wrapped up in little individual tea bags, but you *should* be able to find it in bulk where herbs are sold. I think we brought some individual bags from Morocco. Be sure to have your hubby bring things like that when he comes. I wish we had more now, but we'll restock next trip or have the family send it to us.

Good luck!

In the Latin foods section of your market, there is a tea company called Badia - they sell some excellent ones for upset stomach:

Manzanilla aka Chamomille, Menta aka mint, Estrella de Anise aka Star Anise - all good for your tummy. Also, if you ever see one called Boldo it is the best - some type of tree in South America - it does wonders for an upset stomach.

Ok so i'll explain that I have a touch of the flu.. and when i had stomach aches in Morocco they would make a tea for me.... it was great worked wonders. Now I am back in the states and can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know the name and if it's available in the U.S. at all? My mother in law made it from herbs but I know they make it in tea bags.

Thanks in advance for any help in this...

~~Rajaa~~

Make sure if it's verbena that you get lemon verbena and try it first. Verbena is a really wide set of species-- Lemon verbena is what is used mostly in culinary circles. If it's meramia, then that isn't exaclty sage-- it's like the cousin of sage-- it's in the sage family, but our culinary sage is not the same thing as meramia-- 2 different species. If it's zattar, that's the same deal-- cousin of oregano. Same genus, different species.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.
