What NOT to say to a USA border Agent!

2 weeks ago my daughter and myself were crossing back into the states at the peace bridge(Buffalo)

We were running a bit late because the traffic from Toronto to buffalo was BAD!!(it was a holdiay..I thought it might be ok :rofl: ANYWAY..the very first question the border guy asks..right after I had him BOTH our green cards is

Border guy: who rented this car?

Me: Me..

Border guy: are you sure?

Me: uh..YEAH

border guy:(looks at my daughter..**did your mom rent this car?

daughter: yeah

Border guy: are you sure?(to daughter)

daughter (now with a 16 year olds attitude) UH..YEAH) :rofl:

me: would you like to see the rental papers?(he ignored me!)

Border guy: are you both residents?

Me: yes

Border guy: I was asking her..points at daughter

daughter..yeah

Me: you are holding both our green cards

border guy: your point?

Me: well..that we both have cards that say we're residents

border guy: whens your flt?

Me: 5:31

border guy: don't you think you're running a bit behind schedule?

its 4:00..

Me: There was an accident on the highway..and I thought crossing would be quick..

border guy: well, next time have your green cards ready..

and dismissed us..

BUT..the VERY first thing I did was hand him our cards!!! :rofl: what an ###!! I guess he just wanted someone to pick on!

06/16/08 green card received in mail!!

no more USCIS for almost 2 years!!

:crying: So much hate. I no longer feel welcome here. I wish you all the best border crossing Karma.

My intention of this thread was not to "bring on the hate" to the POE officers. They do have a very serious job, and oen can't expect them to be buddy buddy with ya.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The last time I drove to Canada a few weeks ago I brought my doggy with me. I crossed over at Buffalo as well. (Always Queenston-Lewiston) So I wait over an hour at the border just to wait my turn. The traffic there is so crazy now ever since the dollar has been on par. She asks me to turn off my vehicle so she can search it. Well she opens my truck and didn't realize my dog was in the back seat since I haven't even gotten the chance to tell her yet. (don't ask, don't tell!) As she is looking through the back, my pup gets up and puts her paws up on the back seat staring the officer right in the face. She was so enthralled with the puppy I don't think she really cared. Then she brought it to other officers attention...so soon there were 4 POE officers petting my dog and just going nuts over her. I'm sure people that were in line were loving this. I didn't know how to act or what to say! :lol:

hahaha it TOTALLY threw me off gaurd!! I think I must have looked quite stunned! :rofl: my daughter just got **Tudey** he didn't seem to care though... I'll try and avoid him next time! its like playing eeney meeny miney moe when I'm pulling up to the border
