Well went and applied for my SSN today and was panicking a little after reading the instructions for applying......

ORIGINAL CARD: To apply for an original card, you will need to provide at least two documents to

prove age, identity, and U.S. citizenship or current lawful, work-authorized immigration status. If

you are not a U.S. citizen or do not have current lawful, work-authorized immigration status, you

MUST prove that you have a valid nonwork reason for requesting a card from a federal or state agency"

But was in and out in ten minutes, the woman behind the desk was more interested in Ryan than anything else after a few clicks on her keyboard she told me it would be here in 5-10 days !!!

another step completed

oh nice! good to hear that you had no problems.

Totally agree.

And I found it almost irritating to try to explain things to 'regular' ppl... I'd (we'd) rather stick to those "in the know" around here. The support, well wishes and enthusiasm means more from ppl here too - imho.

haha, yes! "regular" ppl. i'm sure we all have our stories of thinking "i cant believe they just said that to me".

I'm pretty sure my dad thought Paul was imaginary for years.

And then when i tell her she has no idea what i am going through, she says that is just my way of manipulating people. RAHHH!!!

I agree with you that no-one can know, no matter how much they even want to, how this process feels. Yes, everything is on hold.....how can you live your life when half of you is the other side of the world. The only thing they can compare it to is if their partner is away for a few days without them, we all know thats not the same.

By the same token though, we must be sure that what we are fighting for is worth it, to go through all of this rubbish and the relationship that we have with our SO is worth all of this because we want to be with them so much. This process validates our commitment to each other too (even though it is absolute hell, I agree).

So when you are frustrated, come and chat to us :D we are here for you and for each other :D

Totally agree.

Ya im sick of listening to especially at work..."hey isnt ur bf coming home soon" because we thought he would be home at least a month sooner then he is actually coming home, if he comes home at all...begining to wonder if i should have told anyone at all...then again i took two weeks off before johny left so i guess it was unavoidable...As close as we are getting it still seems far away. It def helps finding this website and talking to people who know what we are going through...

Does anyone know when we file for the AOS do we need to do another medical exam?

I am trying to understand how that part works.

Theoretically yes BUT the medical we all have prior to interview is good for 12 months so there should be no need for another one.

the only thing I think that causes some people a problem is getting the vaccination record onto the correct form which, as I understand it, has to be done by an approved civil surgeon and they of course want you to have a full medical more $$$$$

Asking for more $$$$$? I think they have gotten enough from me already.

Hopefully I can have my fiance bring her medical record and vaccination information before she comes back from Japan.

Thanks for the info

The consulate here gave me two copies of the vaccination record with an embossed seal on it. I hope they don't insist on more rigamarole.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.
