Hello -

I need a little help please....................my love is from Gatineau in QC and is now working at the ends of earth in lovely James Bay.....We want to be proactive and apply for his police report. But he is very far from Gatineau or rather Ottawa - and there don't seem to be any RCMP offices within several hundred miles of where he is....any ideas on the best approach to take to begin the process? Oh, and, does he need to get finger printed..? He does not have any police record....

Thanks in advance and best from muggy New York.

Kate

He should contact IdentiCanada...this is the agency all Canadians can go to for police certificates. The police themselves no longer give the certificates; they direct you to IdentiCanada.

Good luck!

Thank you! I can't seem to find a website - can you advise?

It all varies where one lives in Canada, many RCMP agencies still do police back ground checks as do LOCAL police forces. Does he have a police station close by? if so call them and ask if they conduct background checks, and ensure the search is conducted CANADA WIDE (should stay that right on the certificate) if he has ever had a criminal record, he will need fingerprints. NO criminal record = NO fingerprinting, just the canada wide search

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

There are several police forces that will do it by mail. I know Toronto will as will Winnipeg and a few others. I'm with Flames on this one, see what the local police can do first. I assume that there are police in James Bay, the Surete de Quebec or someone. Here's the number for the Surete (?) in Radisson/Baie-James (819) 638-8788. They might be able to do it or suggest something.

It is? Where did you get this information? I got mine from the police themselves, as have many here from VJ. I think as flames said, it really depends on where you live.

I believe Identi-Canada is if you require fingerprint police reports - used to be known as Identification Canada, the fingerprinting branch of the RCMP.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
