LOL.. please note I didnt use the term "off putting" or "crass" ....you chose those words and you chose to bring nationalities into the debate. In my experience "off putting" and "crass" behaviours are not the reserve of specific nations I have travelled extensively and know these behaviours apply to certain PEOPLE - nothing to do with nationalities.

My point is and remains your sarcasm was neither appropriate or helpful ... it may deter posters from raising any other concerns or questions they may have ...... no matter how you try and defend your manner the point remains the same. If you really think a poster asks a question that you think they should already know the answer to ...why not just leave the thread alone?

Most effective - Only effective? no matter - YOU stated and demonstrated it as your prefered tool to communicate -

" I find sarcasm to be an amazingly effective, attention getting communication tool"

And I beleive you! I really do think you think it is effective.......doesnt make it any less sad.

Clearly we will have to agree to disagree.....lol.... :D

Of course you used the term "off putting". See post 9 in this thread.

I also never said sarcasm was my preferred tool. That's like saying "I like the 5/8" box end wrench the best so I'm going to use it as a screwdriver. I said the tool was what I said it was. Read it again if you need to. If you need to add to what I say to make a point the point isn't made. I understand you don't like the sarcasm. I don't care.

Thanks everyone. We never even thought of the Birth Certificate. It's the simplest things that get you.

Then this may sound like a novel idea to you but here goes. Tell the truth. The biggest danger I see here daily is when people try to overthink things. For the most part, there are no tricky questions. Read the instructions for the forms carefully and interpret them literally, then answer accurately and honestly.

Hey Laura !

My Mother is deceased and I ended up putting that on the form....I appreciate where your coming from though - somethimes you are so desperate to get it right that you look at it from all angles. Please dont ever be put off from asking a questions though, after all that is exactly what this forum is all about - who knows if others are querying the same issue?.

We are here to help each other - and usually you will receive a lot of useful information - however you will have to, from time to time, brush aside pointless sarcastic remarks such as " Then this may sound like a novel idea to you but here goes. Tell the truth".

Good Luck with your visa journey.

Pushbrk - I always plan on telling the truth. Not sure what you're implying there. I only wanted a little clarification on something I wasn't sure about.

Truffles - I know what you mean when you look at a question from all angles. Sometimes it better just to go away for a bit or get someone else to look at it. They'll probably say something like 'it's simple, the answer is....'

Thanks for your responses even though the thread did get jacked a little lol.

Hi, we are currently filling out the G-325A for both myself and my partner. For the fathers details on my partners form we are a bit confused on who we put. His real father died just before he was born and his mum re-married when he was 7. His stepdad has no legal guardianship of him and as put by my partner 'just a dude my mom decided to marry.' Do we put his real father or stepfather on the form? I tried searching but didn't come up with much. Thank you.

I would put the dad's name who appears on the legal documents ie passport etc.

I implied nothing. Instead, I tried to be as direct as possible. When you read carefully and interpret literally, there can only be one meaning of "father" and therefore only one possible truthful answer. Your question indicated you hadn't already gotten yourself into that mindset.

FWIW, many times rather than look at it from all angles and then overthink it, simply trust your initial reaction or instinct (if you will) and answer accordingly. Really, it can be that simple............

Laura, your very welcome - and I understand EXACTLY where your mind was, desperate to get it right first time and simply asking for clarification and assistance - this forum is all about helping each other without judgement - everyones circumstances and situations are different and it never hurts to be able to use people as a sounding board from time to time.

I personally have read quite a lot of threads on these boards that have been informative and helpful, some queries come up that other people find useful as well as the poster...... what maybe obvious to one person is not always as clear cut for others.

The paperwork involved with this process can be overwhelming at times and a friendly forum where you can ask for clarification on whatever issue you have can be somewhat of a sanity saver! After all it is like having a friend - when you ask " I know this is a silly question but....." it is never a silly question and to ask for help is not a weakness but a strength.

Good luck....

We put down Andre's father's name and wrote unknown on what we didn't know and deceased. His father's name was not even on the birth certificate. Absolutely no issues.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast
