Hello Guys,

I have yet to file either way CR-1 or DCF and need your opinions on which would be the best and fastest for me to file. Let me explain a little about my situation first. :)

Currently, i'm married using an Orfi marriage. I've been living in Egypt since Jan, but at the time I came over, we were told an American couldn't marry an Egyptian, due to our governments disagreement on the US allowing Americans to marry. So, we chose to use an Orfi marriage. Now things have changed and we can marry legally and we are in the process of this now.

After reading my options, I see I can file DCF or CR-1. I have been in Egypt since Jan, but I have a teen that lives with my parents and I must make trips frequently to visit. We were hoping my daughter could join us, but things aren't working out that way. So, staying here the required 6 months before filing DCF is going to be very hard for me, but I can do it if I must.

I think filing the CR-1 would be best for me since I do need to make trips back to the U.S., but which would be the fastest way to file? Are they both about the same or one seems faster and easier than the other? Also, since I basically do live in Egypt, would I also have an interview and if so, would that be in the states or is my husband the only one that gets an interview? Do they both cost about the same to file? I would appreciate your help and opinions.

The requirement for DCF typically is living in the consulate's district for 6 months as a resident. Have you been an official resident since January? If so, you're almost at the 6 months you'd need and I'd recommend going the DCF route.

No, i'm not a resident as I didn't know i'd need a resident visa. :( I made a couple trips to the states and got new entry visa's when I returned and also in Feb. I got a tourist visa good for 6 months, but I lost that as they made a mistake on my name in my pasport and had to get a new one. So, they returned it w/o all the pages of my entires into Egypt and the 6 months tourist visa.

If I understand DCF in Egypt, I have to live here for 6 months and can not have left for any reason. We're trying to get married legally, but he's having a hard time getting his passport as he lost his. He's the only son and has to proof this with the army here before they give him the new passport. It's basically held up at his college where he attends, as the guy that must sign the paper he is a student there seems to never be in his office.. schools out over here. :(

I have to be married before I can get a resident visa, so, i'm stuck until the man returns to school and signs the paper. I also don't know if I file CR-1 if I will have an interview myself and if so, will it be in the U.S.? I'm just kinda stuck here and so confused. :(
