Hi all... well the journey is almost done with an interview on Tuesday at the Conuslate.

My question is: Does anyone know how long it takes to process the K1 papers at the Peace Arch border. I am considering taking a shuttle bus... and am nervous with timing..

Thanks!

I don't know how long it takes, but I know they're REALLY nice. (I've had to call and talk to them a couple of times now)

They also give out the EAD stamp.

I realize I am no help :(

I would call Quick Shuttle, and ask them how long they would be prepared to wait for you; as you are going to take some time to process. Also ask them, if you could catch the next shuttle that comes through if you are delayed beyond the designated time allowed. They run a pretty tight schedule , because they are providing a service to SEATAC, and we all know that planes do not wait.

Hope that helps you,

Janet

They do not give out the EAD stamp.

I went through there and asked for it. Nope. I even phoned them a few months later asking what the deal was with a K-1 coming through in regards to working. They told me you need to file for an EAD after crossing the border. When I asked about the 90 day stamp, they said there is no 90 day stamp.

I talked to a border agent last month and again last week and both times was told "Yes, we give the EAD stamp."

No kidding. They've started giving it out again? Sheesh. I swear they stopped giving it out just to bother me.

Do me a favour. Write my name down in your friends list or send me a PM after you cross the border. I'd be interested to see what happens when you actually cross the border.

Here's a summery of my conversation with the border on telephone (months after getting to the US with no stamp)

Hi, I'd like to know how you process K-1 visa holders entering the USA.

Sure, what would you like to know.

Specifically what their work status is when they enter the country.

You'd need to file for an EAD.

What about on day 1 in the United States. Could I work immediately?

No, you'd need to file for an EAD. It's a piece of paper called an I-765.

OK, I know about the 765 that you get months down the road after getting married. But I want to know about the first 90 days.

90 days? 90 days has nothing to do with it. You need to get an EAD if you want to work in the US.

Well how come other border crossings give out 90 day temporary work stamps when K-1 people enter at their border crossings?

They don't know what they're doing. They're not supposed to do that. You need an EAD to work in the US.

Sensing that I was talking to a broken record, I hung up at this point. He even said "Not what you wanted to hear was it?"

Man that sucks :( I'll PM you after P and I cross the border and let you know what happens. I spoke to 2 different guys (well, I assume they were different!) and they both told me they give the stamp, so I hope they have started again....

Wish us luck :)
