Why is it people ask who is the best immigrations lawyer, on a website that predominantly deals with people that are doing it them selves?

If you don't have anything complex in your backgrounds like overstaying a visa, or working in the USA without permission, then applying for an immigrant visa is quite easy.

A Lawyer cannot make the process go any faster.

Don't get married. File a K-1 if you want to a chance of living together in this century. I'm very, very serious.

Yep listen to her, dont do what I did. I married and then filed, now I havent seen my wife in 8 months.(and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel)

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!

Noooo, don't do the CR1. Seriously. If you do it will take forever. Do the K-1. You'll be married and in the US before we're done our CR1 and we filed in October of '07. Vermont is a black hole for K-3s and CR1s. They go in and never come out (unless your spouse is active US military in which case you can get an expedite.)

Look at the trends and the timelines. You'll see that the K-1 is the best route right now. And file soon. ASAP.

Thanks for your feedback.I always like to do stuff by myself.

But in my case we first have to withdraw my father petition(which will take 6 years more)

so that we can start CR-1.

what do u think.is this the right path.

CR-1 if you wish to be able to take a job once you enter the USA.

If you are lucky a K-1 MAY get an EAD stamp that allows work for only 90 days after entry, then cannot work until getting EAD or Green-card from adjustment of status. EAD stamp for the most part is not issued at the POE's any more.

K-3 is NOT work ahthorized, and has to wait for EAD or green-card, EAD can take 90 days or more to get.

What's the current wait between marriage and filing for working papers? I bet it still beats the K-3 or CR1. It is a matter of what they can afford. But I bet right now they're supporting two households and if he moved, it'd be down to one. So long as he's not the sole support, if she's working they're golden.

I just looked -- average EAD is 73 days.

Still a much better deal.

That is an option that needs to be checked out, for most DCF requires US citizen to be resident for at least 6 months in the foreign country on some sort of resident visa. Also US Citizen must not give up US domicile.
