Any Fees at JFK for Temporary Work Permit?

I just came from an appointment I made at my local USCIS office where they told me that #1 JFK POE can't provide a temporary work permit... (I made them go check and they found out they were WRONG)

Then they told me he'd have to pay a $350 fee to get it. They then told me that once we do the AOS it will take about 4 months for him to get the real work permit (which we also have to pay for) and so any way we look at it he will be without legal work status for about 3-4 months. I told them this just wasn't right and she got REALLY NASTY with me and said "YOU are responsible for him, YOU said you'd support him!!!" blah blah blah... to which I pointed out that I WILL do that, but that he has children that need his support back home and that he really needs to work... she got snippy with me again so I shut up...

She also told me that he should have gotten a copy of his medical exam and immunizations record from the Embassy in Cairo after his interview so he could bring them with him, or face doing it ALL over again. I read somewhere on this site that the medical stuff is good for one year, but I guess it's OUR responsibility now to hunt it down from the Embassy if the doctor who did the exam didn't keep a copy.

Anyone have any information on either of these subjects??? And I did confirm that we can do all the translations of documents ourselves as long as we put the paragraph about him being competent in English and Arabic, blah blah blah... so we won't pay for more lousy translations from Egypt, or EXPENSIVE ones from here....

Thanks for any information,

Karamella

P.S. I looked at the packet she gave me for the AOS and couldn't BELIEVE what a silly repetitive process they've devised... and their slogan has the word "ingenuity" in it... for crying in the shorba! ;)

Sorry, I can't advise on any of your concerns. I just wanted to comment that I would have told her that him wanting to work has nothing to do with you being unable to support him. It's about a man not wanting to sit at home for months when he could be productive and working.

It just annoys me when someone THINKS they know another person's motives.

Why did you have an appointment with USCIS? Just to ask questions or was there an RFE or something?

My hubby didn't fly in via JFK, but it has always been my understanding that the temp EAD at JFK is free. I never heard anyone discuss fees for this.

When you apply for his AOS, it will cost $1010. This cost includes filing AOS, EAD, and AP ONLY if you apply for them all at the same time, in the same envelop. If you do them seperate them AOS will cost $1010, and EAD (I believe will by $340), and AP an additional fee.

Medical Records, if you can easily get copies do that. If not, just re do it in the US. Unless the specifically asked for the medical records they only thing you need to vaccine supplement. The medical exam is supposed to be good for one year.

i entered US through JFK and get work permission for 3 months without paying any fee

Shukran Gazeelan Mohamed for the good news. He's going to need all the $ he can save for those months when he can't work... (which I am also going to assume will make him CRAZY) I think it's INSANE to make someone quit while they wait for ANOTHER work permit... like jobs are falling off trees these days!

Wishing you the best,

Karamella

My husband came right before Mohamed and there were no fees and actually he didn't even know he had the work stamp in his passport because it was in the back and had a staple through it.

We just filed for AOS and reese's 16 is correct. It looked like the trend to get the work permit was around 2 months or so.

Best wishes!

A lie? How about an error????

I didn't waste my time and I see no reason why I shouldn't go to the USCIS... it's free and as long as I'm double checking to see if what they say is accurate (and they did confirm that he could get the EAD at JFK after they checked...) and not relying on the first answer they give 100%.

Why would it be a waste of my time when I got the whole AOS packet of forms and got the answer to several questions? In past experiences with them they have been very helpful and knowledgeable, their lack of knowledge on this issue was an exception...
