JFK vs home airport

Hello all! My question is for those of you who have already gotten married and are going through the adjustment of status/EAD stage, and whose wives/husbands entered on a K1 visa.

For my hypothetical situation, I would fly to Mexico when my fiance has his K1 visa interview (just in case), and then we would fly together to our home city. We could:

1. Pay a total of $361 (plus taxes/fees) for both of us if we crossed into El Paso and then flew home

or

2. Pay $1521 (plus taxes/fees) for me to fly to El Paso, take a taxi to Ciudad Juarez, and then have both of us fly out of Ciudad Juarez to JFK to possibly receive the temporary work stamp, spend the night (got friends there we could crash with, but there's still the cost of food plus anything we decide to visit in NYC) then onto our home city the next day.

Since JFK is one of the POEs that may offer a temporary 90 day work permit upon entering on a K1 visa for my fiance (and I know there have been a couple of other POEs for this, but it's been rare), do you all think it is worth an extra $1160? I know it depends on my finances - and I have no problem putting that on a credit card - but I would like to know people's experience with not getting the temporary EAD stamp vs. those who paid a little extra to have their fiance/e enter through JFK as their POE. And I also know it depends on whether he gets a job soon after arrival here, or having several interviews and not getting anywhere.

We would then get married within 2-3 weeks, apply for SSN, and then onto adjustment of status, EAD, and AP (but probably won't do AP).

So what did you all do? Did your wife/husband arrive at a certain POE and you wish it had been a different one? And for anyone who's about to have their fiance/e come here, what are you all planning to do?

Thanks all!

EAD stamp from the POE cannot guarantee that she can get a job immediately after her entry in the US. If i were you i will save my money and wait until after marriage to apply for EAD. Good luck!

It is uncertain if they issue the stamp, it is uncertain if a job can be found, it is only valid for 90 days... imho not really worth the money, I wouldn't do it.

I really wouldn't do it. First of all the uncertanty of getting the stamp, secondly, many employers will be unlikely to hire somebody with a temporary permit and no SSN, thirdly, give you man a little time to settle in :). If you plan on getting married shortly after his arrival, just do that an file for EAD right away. That way he'll have time to adjust to new country and map out some job prospects. Good luck!

The difference in price for Darren to go through JFK was minor...came out to be about $70 or so...we decided to take the chance...but if it was over $1,100, we would have decided on him being a househusband until he got his EAD.
