Little Help?

In a few weeks we'll close on our new house. Mary will fly in to help clean and move in. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a nice little house warming surprise. I was hoping someone would be willing to pick me up a few boxes of shreddies and a bag or two of ketchup chips. If I was thinking I would have grabbed them on my last trip driving back. I'd pay for shipping and the time to pick it up and pack it well for me.

Let me know!

You may well not be able to mail that via Canada Post. The US FDA has laws against sending food stuffs and the paperwork is long and a major pain in the ####### if the postal clerk won't take your package without it.

Your better option is to order foodstuffs from www.canadianfavourites.com or bring it across the border yourself.

I've had food stuff sent through the mail, both to the US and from the US. I've never had a problem.

Yes it's interesting, I'd like to know what the scoop is there. I knew someone (this is about 2 years ago now), who attempted to send a food package from Calgary to the U.S. (just stuff like candy and snacks etc) and the post office said no.

Guess it depends what mood the postal clerk is in that day.

Well, I mailed it off okay yesterday. However that was just at a drug store postal outlet. So who knows. . . . . . my packing job was like Fort Knox, they might not know what's inside. I hope it doesn't get returned, cause I don't like Ketchup chips or Shreddies. Had there been Goodie Ring Cookies in there, the package would have never left my house.

Thanks, I was just trying to slip in the surprise at the right time. I wont be up until August and she is only visiting for a week to help to move me in. Mary wont be moving in until September. I wanted to surprise her to help her feel like its her place too - and it is home :)

Thanks again cat!

After the anthrax scares a few years ago the FDA enacted new laws about sending food stuffs through the mail. It may be that they've relaxed it a bit since then, but a few years ago I couldn't even mail my father-in-law a can of Tim's hot chcolate without filling out a ream of paperwork. I called him and told him he'd have to wait until I could make a trip down personally :P Ad this was at a local drug store postal outlet. The employees there are employees of the post office, not the drug store.

If you did not put on the mailing customs documents what is in the package, customs may well open it up and go thru it all. If they're in a pissy mood, they could send it all back, and/or confiscate it without notice.

And Krikit, I can always count on you for a ray of sunshine (the goodie rings) in a dark cloud (the pokey). Honestly, I'd enter jail voluntarily for a few goodie ring cookies.

My girlfriend sends Canadian Goodies to California, Just recently Ketchup Pringles.

Also Crunchies, Coffee Crisp, and Smarties to her brother in Denver who misses them

Never had a problem as long as the Customs declaration is filled out correctly. Now mind you she also lives on the border of Michigan so maybe she actually buys the products from Canada and ships them from the States
