Hi everyone. I just try reading up on HM Customs and Revenue but I can't seem to find a straight forward answer. So I thought maybe someone here may know.

Does Glyn have to officially notify anyone here in the UK that he is leaving? Like tax wise will he have to file a form or something explaining why he isn't contributing to National Insurance?

Unless he thinks he's due a tax rebate. Dont think the UK is bothered otherwise.

If you're leaving the UK you must tell HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Your Tax Office will give you form P85 to get any tax refund you're owed and work out if you'll become non-resident. If you still need to complete a tax return after you leave they'll let you know.

Yeah, send in a P85 and you'll probably get a rebate - I got a few hundred pounds.

I believe you can. I remember the form asking if you were moving in the future or if you had already moved. Give it a whirl anyway.

If you go to live or work abroad and become non-resident in the UK, you might still have to pay UK tax - but only on your income from the UK. If you do need to pay, you may need to complete a Self Assessment tax return.

You don't need to do anything unless you still have ties with the UK, like you have to pay a bank money, or you have a business in the UK, anything money related to do with the UK, if that doesn't apply to you, you don't have to worry about anything.

I would suggest finding out about keeping up his National Insurance Contributions .... I'm pretty sure it's a nominal amount when you're out of the country (I remember doing it before but it's been a few years since I lived out of the UK) .... it will ensure his 'stamp' is paid for if ever he requires the State Pension .... or ever desires to return to the UK.

Tons of Ex Pats get their State Pension sent to foreign bank accounts .... the ones in Spain do it all the time ... I knew people in Florida doing it when I was a kid living in the US too.
