Hi all... I am gonna intro myself here (did a post in the intro forum too)... Seeing as I am in London.

Me and my husband have been married for a couple years now (he is the US citizen and I am british)... He moved over to the UK, but that hasn't worked out too well for him, so he recently moved back to the US to find work and sort out accomodation (finally found work... YAY!), we are now going to start the process for us to be together again with me to moving over to NY with our son.

TBH though, I am not in a hurry (sounds terrible doesnt it?? LOL)... I am a teacher so will be spending every 6-8 weeks with him during the school holidays... Currently looking for a reasonable priced flight for this summer... Has anyone got any suggestions on airlines/deals?

Plus, our son will just be starting full time school in Sept this year so itw ould be nice for him to see out a full academic year without disruption. We are hoping for the whole process to be completed by July 2009 (I am trying to get my current school to agree to a 2 year sabactical, so I can have a back up plan). Bit worried about the state of the economy over there though too (even though ours ain't too much better... LOL) .

I am also scared about the whole leaving everyone behind thing too, I saw how hard it was for him when he was out here...

I would love to make friends on here with others that understand what we are going through...

Look forward to getting to know all of you..

Hi and Welcome to VJ!!! :D

Sorry I don't know what airline has reasonable summer fares coming from the UK to the US, but I just wanted to wish you good luck in your visa journey and hope that it will be a quick and smooth process for you!

Good luck with all the upcoming changes...hope it is a smooth transition for you...and...welcome to VJ!

I haven't a clue about airfares...I just purchased a ticket with Continental..round trip from Cleveland, OH to Gatwick for $848 USD...I kept checking yahoo travel twice a day until I saw the price drop from $1100..then jumped on it! My previous flight with American Airlines I got a Springtime deal in March for $574 USD....good luck!

Welcome to VJ. Good luck on your journey. I would think that its easy to get done by July 2009 so you are good there. Sorry I don't know much about the airlines thing.

Hi and welcome. I think you will find everyone on VJ very helpful and friendly.

I would keep searching (I look every day) for deals on airline tickets. Sidestep.com is pretty good but I also just check individual airlines as well. We are probably flying USAirways in June for $662.00 MAN-BOS with a stop in the ever so lovely(NOT) Philly. Not booking the tickets though until AFTER our interview on Tuesday. Thats the best price I have found so far plus its who we have all our airmiles with and my former employer so we almost always fly with them.

Good luck.

Welcome ^_^

Flights over the summer tend to be pretty steep, but if you shop around and are not too fussy about which day you fly I'm sure you'll find something reasonable. Depending on where you're flying in to you may also be able to book a late deal or something.

Waiting on the EAD, AP, and AOS

Hi and welcome!

I've found traveling Monday-Wednesday tends to be cheaper, but I haven't looked in a while, so that might have changed?

Welcome to VJ, there are lot of friendly folks here going through the same process, and quite a few from the UK. Good luck and best wishes with the process, by God's grace everything should be done by end of 2009.

Use this to search for airfares http://www.kayak.co.uk. It searches multiple ticket sales sites but not all of them.

Summer is one of the peak fare seasons and what with fuel surcharges etc the days of really cheap long haul flights are gone. That search site will find if one ticket agent has a flight cheaper than another but don't be surprised if the fares are quite high.

It's going to be difficult these days finding anything less than $800.

However, in my experience Air India has usually had the cheapest fares UK - US. However they only fly certain days of the week (at least into Chicago).

Typically, I fly in/out of Dublin and then take a Ryan Air flight over to my UK destination. There are some advantages to this:

1) If you play your cards right you can get a 1p flight to your UK destination

2) When flying to the US you go through the US Customs at Dublin Airport instead of the US destination. You do this before the flight...so you don't have long lines to wait in after a long flight. Also I find the personnel there to be nicer.

3) Aer Lingus tends to be fairly cheap

As of late American Airlines and British Airways have had some good deals...or at least better than their competition. I was just over in the UK a few weeks ago and my BA flight was just over $600. Nicky's UK relatives all got their flights for £300 on American from Manchester to Chicago.

I hope this helps!

Welcome to VJ, you will find lots of nice people here to keep in contact with. Try looking on farecompare.com, it will price all flights for you and allow you to choose which airline is offering your flight cheapest. Good Luck!
