Hi Folks,

So, I finally managed to find a co-sponsor after such a long search. I have a couple questions regarding the situation though. First, I am pretty sure that my salary and such will be enough to sponsor my husband. When do you actually find out if you need a joint-sponsor. I would only like to use the joint-sponsor as a last resort. So, is it possible to send my I-864 alone and then wait to see if I need a joint-sponsor, then submit the other I-864. I am not sure when they look at the I-864 forms, so I would hate to get the bad news at the interview in Frankfurt. Does the NVC review the I-864 and let you know if you need a joint-sponsor before or after going to the foreign embassy? If it goes to the embassy and I find out at the interview that I need a joint-sponsor, am I able to just bring the joint-sponsor I-864 with me and submit it then?

Sorry, that all sounds a bit confusing, but I would appreciate some answers of similar situations of people that found out that they needed a joint-sponsor.

I also had one more general question about filling the I-864 out. Under Part 6 # 24, I am not so sure what my joint-sponsor would put. The joint-sponsor is my friend, so would he check box "e" like me and then put the intending immigrants name? Thanks.

Since there is a clear formula, where do you fall when you do the calculation? If you are above the cut-off, you'll know you do not need a co-sponsor.

My annual salary is above the cut-off and my 2006 tax return was above the PG; however, 2007 wasn't and I have a letter explaning why not, but like I said, I was just curious as to when the I-864 gets officially looked at and when it is determined that I need a joint sponsor. I am just worried because of 2007's tax return. I missed the limit by 2,500$.

It sounds like you'll be ok if your current salary is well documented. I'd just keep that joint sponsor's I-864 as a back-up and present it at the interview if needed.
