I have those sleeve thingies and wore them once. I hate them!!! They're so thick and hot and yukkie imho. Instead one time in Target I found long sleeved tshirts that are basically as thin as gauze and that is what I wear underneath things that are sleeveless or short sleeved. for example today I am wearing pants, the long sleeved gauze-like t-shirt and a spaghetti strapped coral cotton dress that comes down to the knees with an Oleg Cassini (sp?) silk scarf that has different shades of coral and a coral under thingie that hides the hair in front. It's my favorite outfit for the summer!

nope u still have to wash ur face coz its exposed to the elements. yeah ur feets are fine if u've been wearing socks and have not gotten them dirty (aka going outside sock footed etc).

Ah well, I dont' wear makeup anyway - was just curious ;)

What I really want to know is if there is a place I can order those sleeves online.

I have some, but they are white and I wear them 5 days a week to work and they are slowly turning a greyish color and it's been almost 1 yr. I'm about to switch jobs so maby I could get another 2 white ones and some colored for when I have to wear office clothes and business suites (wearing a chef's uniform right now)

U can prolly find'em cheaper than I got mine. Mine were 5 dollars for 2 pair. There's a shop about what...10 or 15 minutes from my place and I'm all sortsa happy to have been led to it via VP. Thanks

I'm sure u can gettem online but can't remember where exactly. Mine go up to the elbows, not all the way up the arm.

If she gave them to you for 2/$5 that's really a pretty awesome price and you're not likely to find them any cheaper on the internet unless you can find someone selling them used or in lots or something.

This Ebay store has them Crescent City Egypt and you can find them on pretty much any Islamic clothing website under accessories inshallah.

If they're too expensive with shipping at those sites maybe Amal or I could pick them up for the price she got them for here and mail them to you inshallah.

Anything that enhances ur beauty actually doesnt comply with the meaning of hijab -not attracting men to look at u- but i do add some concealor but i make sure not to add any colors to my face or make it attractive. On the other hand i do wear makeup at home; dress nice n im always looking my best :D

Once again I'm a bit confused. So you're not supposed to look pretty as a women when you go out in public? I guess I'm reverse. I don't wear make-up at home because I don't see the need and I wear make-up in public so I don't scare the neighbors.

No, the point of modesty in dress is not to look beautiful for non-related men.

I want to look good for my husband regardless of the location. If I go out with my husband without my make-up I'm sure my husband will be 50 feet away from me! :jest: I would think that a man would want their wife to look good when he's out with her.

I mostly see them for $5 a pair in a million colors. But when they are on sale (rarely white or black on sale) the prices are cut in half. They look uncomfortable, I've never tried one on.

that's right Alhamdulillah. The only ppl that *need* to see u all "purtiefied" is ur family and especially ur husband since he's the one that gets the joy of looking at you without u being fully covered. Think of it this way... what sense does it make to get beautiful for the world and make ur husband look at you looking like a horses butt? (disclaimer: I wasn't aiming that phrase towards anyone here or insinuating that any of us look like an actual horses butt)

To me it makes more sense to be appealing to ur husband and less appealing to the outside world since u want ur husband to be attracted to u and not anyone else...right?

eta: in islam that is one of the reasons a woman is to cover. It hides her beauty (or the lack thereof) from everyone so they don't know what u look like. this preserves you for only your husband. Does that make sense?

My thought is this. I want my husband to be proud that I am his wife. If I were to go out with no make-up and didn't dress nice I can see people saying my husband is with a ugly woman. When I make myself look nice (and I do dress very modest and I don't wear a lot of make-up) it's not that I want other men to look at me, but it's that I want them to think my husband has a nice looking wife.

I would think that a man would want their wife to look good when he's out with her.

Not mine. He doesn't want other men looking at me or flirting with me nor does he have any desire to show me off like I'm on display. He's quite jealous and protective of me.

I also don't consider myself "ugly" without makeup so it's not like when I go out with him he's with some kind of hideous monster  Makeup, hair color and hair bows are just that little something extra to make me feel like a princess for my prince :D

We don't go out a lot where men and women mix anyway....

This is very interesting to read about your lives and how you all found the path you love to live. I have too many thoughts and that kinda messes up the whole faith thing, but I don’t wear makeup, I used to, it has nothing to do with God or anybody, I am just plain lazy. I never understood the hair thing, hair is a big turn off to me, I love to have my hair, but I also have some kind of phobia, I can’t stand to see hair on the floor, my clothes, anywhere. Not sure when this happened, but it is like an OCD thing I have. When I cook I have to be super clean, this means I inspect my clothes, make sure that when I dress my hair is all tied up, and that I am not in danger of some of it falling. As far as dressing respectable I agree, but not for any religious reasons, I just don’t like to show my not so perfect body. I do have to say if I looked like a super model I would dress with fewer clothes. Lol I grew up with a mother that thinks it is horrific to leave the house with out your make-up and dressed nicely, she calls me her hippie child, cause clothes are not something I even care about, as long as it is comfortable and looks half way decent I am cool. I think a man should control himself period, they are not wild animals, they should be big boys and control their self’s. Just because I see a half naked man does not give me permission to go and touch him, I do have common sense. Sure Brad Pitt is a hottie, but I think I have enough self-control to not jump on him, and if I don’t I need some serious therapy, that goes for men also. One thing about the Middle East is that a woman is only half the worth of a man, which really doesn’t sit well with me. Sounds like some men got together and made that up, what a concept. What does Islam say about the dinosaurs? Just curious, my first husband believed that man and dinosaurs lived together like the Flintstones. We also have some fundamental Christians that have places that show dinosaurs and man living together. I find that a little crazy really, kind of creepy.

CrazyinEgypt- ofcourse u wdnt let urself go out with ur husband looking messy lol.... i dress modestly; But not UGLY lol i make sure colors of what im wearing match n that they r clean n its how my carry urself that makes the impression on ppl really.

Ganjagirl- Allah says in the quran that He has created all things that we know of n that we dont know of.... they re just like any other creation.....

Just for info; i never felt i was half worth of a man, al hamdulillah i ve always had equal opportunities n my religion never got in my way n it always opened so many roads for me to achieve my goals. Other countries make it difficult on women out of tradition and cultural beliefs IMO.

Thanks for answering, like I said before I am super clean and my clothes match, but to be dead honest I could live in my night gown forever, and not the sexy kind of night gown either.

im always wondering why here in USA where the pressure or culture or tradition isnt so dogmatic why does women feel the need to be extremely modest or why does the husbands demand that? more often do I see the muslim women who come shopping with the 5 or 6 or so children all dressed head to toe in dark color and face mostly hidden followed by a husband wearing shorts, t shirt and flip flops going grocery shopping? Sure modesty is the best way to go but really is it that necessary for all that ? It brings more of the wrong kind of attention to them by looks, stares, and questions than anything.

I work with alot of muslim women and most all but not all dress with the head covering and long sleeves which to me is perfectly modest and they get questioned by the total covered (hands, feet, face) ladies about why they dont do that... whats the point ? why the question as to why my muslim co workers choose not to dress that extreme? I even had one of the above mentioned ladies ask me why I wore gloves over my hands and if it was for religious reasons...

just my thought and questions... (F)

In Islam any step u take for the sake of Allah is counted and Allah will reward u for it... so some women do more with the intention of pleasing their Lord.

well that being said and the case, then why do they question sooooooooo often my muslim co workers about the way they choose to dress?
