Hello all,

I know there is a topic here on the cheapest international call from US to PI here already on the board.

We are using Myworld and Time Warner Digital Phone One Price and are happy with that.

But what about when your fiance / spouse is already here in the US. (baliktad naman ito)

What is cheapest way to text / call from the Philippines to the US.

My fiance has many text buddies with SUN/GLOBE/SMART. What is the cheapest way for her to keep in touch with them? (via text or by voice)

Is there a unit / cell phone that can be used in the US where your friends can just call you locally from their Phlippines cell phone.

But, we do not want to pay for roaming fees that cost an arm and a leg.

Any information will help. Thanks.

hi she did not enrolled in roaming service? while in Philippines?

I did mine like this...

I enrolled my smart sim to roaming while i am in the airport.. I keep my # until now, I still received text from my friends and family but........ i dont reply them through my Philippine #.

I used chikka messenger to text them back :) it's free... international text..

I used this since Im still in college... when I am run out of load...

just download, chikka messenger at chikka.com

it's a great messenger ... u can send MMS too :) for free ..

If she did not enroll in roaming,, she can still sign up in chikka with pc # and still can text in PI and then her friends can reply to her PC chikka # too :)

And for her friends & family and love here in US... the phone is free when u will get cellphone plan :) 2 phones in total eheh..

In USA:

I have MetroCel PCS. It a cell phone company.

$45 per month I have unlimited calling within USA, Calling PI is .19 per cell and .16 per land line.

Text to PI is Free with plan.

I also use Chikka to text to PI from USA.

I tried to enroll in roaming in globe and smart the day before i travel to the USA but, i really dont know, i cant contact using either number here in Florida. That is why i use T-Mobil. I load 500 in my globe and smart, yet its gone with out my usage....So, roaming is good only in some states then ? I was able to use my Smart in Guam but, when i arrived in Florida, wala eh.

Right . .Mas okay tayo sa Pinas kasi when we received text wala bayad. D2 meron. In my TMobil, when my friends send me messages thru my mobile fon they pay and I also pay.... Anyways, I have to have a plan to have 400 txt messages for $5....than paying .15 per text outgoing or incoming.

As of now, PI friends and family just communicate with me thru internet . If I am offline, they sent me messages direct to my phone in TMOBIL so, i still can communicate with them anywhere I go. What is important is I can talk to my mother and siblings thru YM and MSN Messenger using my headset and webcam anytime/anyday we want. I never get homesick so far.

Primie, they can change your smart sim to roaming at the airport? How much does it cost and do you keep your number? The reason I ask is because my fiancée really wants her sim to be roaming when she comes here but doesn't know how much it costs and where to get it done.

When I came here I had my Globe roaming activated. But sometimes it won't have signal esp when we travel to some places.I decided to give it up after two months and I'm now just communicating with my family and friends thru the internet .I can see them (webcam) and up to sawa pa :):):). I only use the landline when it's really important.

she will just text ROAM ON then send to 333 for smart subscriber :) & then they will send confirmation.. it's free she will just need to maintain Php100 balance when she's here in the US coz it will not work if not maintained with balance ... i roamed also before, so far it works for me.. maybe it depends in the state?

for globe:

txt GROAM ON <start date mm/dd/yyyy> <no . of days> to 2884, 24 hours before departure. P100 credit balance is required before activation. Maintain daily balance of P100 for continuous roaming service. D Maximum number of days for activation is 180 days.

and then when we will return home we will just roam off send to 333 for smart... and then GROAM OFF send to 2884 for Globe..

If roaming is not working as they said above coz of weak signal..,, ym, skype & chikka :) are the solution

When I was last in PI in Feb I got Two sim cards at Globe for about 130 pesos. One has roaming in the US and the PI number can text me for 1 peso. I text back with my US T-Mobile cell because its cheaper. I use www.aryty.com/Default.aspx to add load when I need to. The package is called OFW for over seas Filipino workers. My fiancee and I love it because now she text me 4 or 5 times a day. She will be arriving in the US in less then 24 hours, im so excited. Take care and goodluck everyone

My fiance has a globe roaming sim. He is in Florida. This is where I text him as in text to the max especially when I am enrolled to unlimited texting hahaha. If you load 100 pesos, that is good for 15 days only. 300pesos is for 60 days. I just don't know with the other amount. The phone must be triband.

God bless!
