Documents for DS-230

I have a question, for the documents that go alone with the DS-230 (Birth Certificate, police report, marriage certificate etc..) Do they need to be translated into English if they are in Arabic, which is the official language of Lebanon?

Can anyone answer this for me??

Thanks for the answer, I guess I was confused!

Things are calming down in Lebanon for now INSHALLAH they stay that way so my hubby can finish the paperwork.

I was under the impression that if you are going to a consulate in a country that the documents are from, you do not need to have them translated. You can do it as a formality though, but I do not think it is necessary.

I got this from the Documents The Applicant Must Submit in the Department of State wedsite

Translations

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

So I guess that means, no translation needed?????

I think that statement means if you are filing DCF, and the language of the document is the same language as the embassy, then no translation is necessary.

If you are sending your documents to the USA then yes you will need to translate your documents into English!

You'll need:

1.) Original or certified copies of the document (NB: a Xerox copy is not a certified copy)

2.) A translation of the original document into English by someone who is fluent (conversant) in both English and the language of the original document

3.) A statement certifying that the translator is fluent in both languages and the translation is accurate. You may notarize this certification, but it is not necessary.

If you or your spouse is fluent in both languages, you can do the translation yourselves.

When I was at DS230 stage I had the same question and I got the same email answer from NVC(listed above), I had also talked with NVC operator and they told me my doc`s dont need to be translated,I was a little bit sceptic about their answers so I end up with translation just to safe our case from RFE`s. And another thing...I dont think that people from NVC understand arabic language and collecting all those papers that you need i dont know will they understand which paper is for what document. Dont want to discourage you, call them and ask, this is only my experience and opinion.
