I am really confused! Since I am at Vermont and they do not seem to be approving the I-129 for K-3 I am getting things in order for a I-130 approval. My question is what kind of police report is actually needed to send to NVC? I have read that they require a local police clearance as well as one from the passport agency but when I looked it up at uscis website it gives instructions on how to get a police clearance and it says you have to write to a place in Ikoyi? I am so confused. What do I really need to have my husband get? Is the local report the one he will get from Ikoyi? Will he still have to go to a passport office and get one from them as well? Or is the one from Ikoyi the only one he needs and how much is it going to cost him to get it? Oh and also one more thing, does he really only need to write to them to get it or does he need to travel to lagos and get it in person? He is in Aba and thats a looong trip so I am hoping he wont have to do that. OHHHHHHHHHH this immigration mess is so confusing. I just want my husbaaaaannndddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is making me crazy!

firstly ur husband need police certificate not police report, since your husband place of residence fall within the circumference of easten region i guess not sure there should be a police force headquaters who does that in that region, but to avoid getting a wrong cert. and delay the processing i will imploy your husband to make a trip to lagos and get it the done there. is at ALAGBON IKOYI if he is takin a public bus :from OBALENDE tell him to take bus going to IKOYI HOTEL then alight at secretariat then cross to other side 1 minute walk by the right ALAGBON prison by the left POLICE FORCE HEADQUATERS tell him to go inside directly, cos there re some miscreant oustide asking to help.he only need two photograph passort and his nigeria passport for sighting, the price range btw #3,000 to #5,000 it denpends on the officer and ur husband power of bargaining and he will get it the same day if he can hang around for couple of hours.mind you it's only valid for 3 month u can wait to get your approval before u do that.

KC4them is right. Coz if your husband get the police certificate now and send it to you, he will have to get another one for the US consulate during the interview session before a visa can be issued ti him. So I'll rather have him wait till the application is approved and the consulate has invite him for the interview because the police certificate is just valid for 3 months.

I think Lagos is the only place where you can get the police certificate processed, though he can give his finger print in any local police station but they will have to send it to Lagos for processing which will take longer time and more money. It's advisable for him to get the certificate from Lagos.

I am hoping we did it right. My husband went directly to the station. Knew the woman there so he paid the fees and she got the papers ready. He was fingerprinted and a passport photo added. I understand your pain. My husband is in administrative processing after his interview and this has been over a year now. My senators say they cannot do anything.

I have also been told and emailed directly from the Lagos consulate office, and they have told/written to me that the time validity of the police clearance, when applying for the K1 Visa is 1 YEAR. I am very confused. Is the certificate expiration time different when a person is applying for a K3 than a K1? But I definitely have two responses from them stating that it is valid for one entire year....So what is the correct answer ?

My husband submitted one police report and had to have another one submitted because it expired after the 3 month period. But of course this was for a different embassy. He also had to go to 2 towns to get the police reports, one from the town he lives in now and another from the town he lived in while in school.

The exipration time should be the same for the K1 and the K3. Even though it is valid for a year I think that they prefer the police certificate be issued as close to the interview as possible.

To be on the safe side I would get the police certificate within 3 months of the interview. No need to give them a reason to delay the visa.

The correct answer is that the rules say 1 year and the consulate does whatever they bleepin' please! The consulate in many of the west african nations want the police certificate as close to the interview date as possible and if it's further out will ask you to obtain another. BECAUSE THEY CAN! Girl, by now you should know that there is no "correct" or "logic" in the process. That's why we come here, to hear what's happening in practice and be as prepared as possible.
