Civil Marriage in US then Religious Marriage in Peru?

My girlfriend is Peruvian and would like to get married in Peru, but from everything I’ve been reading here in the forums, everyone says not to get married in Peru because it’s so complicated. Some have suggested to get the K1 visa, get married in the States, get Advanced Parole, then go back to Peru for a religious marriage. I was just wondering if anyone has actually done it that way and if it was satisfactory?

Thanks!

Have not done it yet, but my fiancee (Brazilian) is going to get civilly married here in July and then next year we will get married religiously in Brazil. AP estimates are about 4 months which is something to consider. Another consideration would be finding a religious official to do such a ceremony. I think she has had some problems finding a priest to marry us without legally marrying us at the same time, even though we would be already legally married in the U.S. and could bring our marriage license.

The problem for travel with the I131 while she'll waiting for the GC, is that when she'll want to re-enter to US she cannot will be allowed to do, because her admission will depend of the critery of the immigration official. At least is that I have read here in VJ. Supposely, the I131 is with that porpouse but I don't know, in my opinion is better don't to take the risk.

Some people decide to get religious wedding abroad (if it isn't considered as legal marriage) and next they apply for the K1 visa. Other way, is waitn until she gets the GC to go to Peru and get the religious wedding.

Good luck.

I would like to know where you read that. Many, many people use AP (form I-131) all the time with no problems.

Mayfair, I am a US citizen, and married in Peru, just this feb 16, it really is not that complicated..You need birth certificate translated into spanish and legalized in the closest peruano embajado..blood test, copy of your passporte, put the edict in the paper..Not really that hard, have your peruana, go to her municipalidad, and get the requirements.. good luck my friend..Daniel and Meche..
