DHL employee tries to take advantage(Ica, Peru)....

My wife just recenlty sent some of her papers back to the states through DHL. But, on her first attempt, the gentlemen working at the DHL office wanted to take a look at the documents she was sending eventhough they were already in a sealed envelope. He opened it right in front of her eventhough she objected and once he saw that they were official documents the price for the shipment suddenly went up to 200 dollars from the original quoted 80. To make a long story short, she did not pay and returned at a later time when that particular employee was not there and sent the documents.

This should not suprise anyone from Peru. Shakedown is a way of life there.

I too would have reported this to DHL. Would be nice if she had gotten the employee's name.

I have an account through FedEx so I don't think it would be possible (though anything can happen) for an employee to request more than the published rates. All it takes is a credit or debit card to set up the account and all shipments will be billed directly as long as your account number is listed on the waybill.
