Affidavit of Support Question

Hello all,

My Fiancee and I received our NOA2 on April 6th and the NVC forwarded the visa application on to the embassy in Rio De Janeiro on April 9th. The application should be at the embassy now. Hurray! Anyway my question is about the Affidavit. I am well above the poverty line and can provide any tax or employer information they request. But, what i'm wondering about is how and when they will request the affidavit? Will I have to send the affidavit directly to the Embassy in Rio, or to the USCIS, or do I need to mail it to my Fiancee in Brazil? Maybe this is a silly question, but I just want to be prepared so we can expedite the process. :)

thanks,

Joe

I am not sure how they do it in Brazil but I know that for Thailand the beneficiary brings it with him/her to the interview. USCIS has nothing to do with the process anymore. So if you are the sponsor and are filling out the affidavit, then you need to send it to your fiance in brazil and have her bring it to the embassy with her. At least thats how we do it in thailand and im pretty sure thats how most places do it.

Typically the visa applicant brings it to the interview. There are provisions for the USC to submit it directly, but that may or may not be a good "sign" in the eyes of a CO.

Get it all ready and wait for packet 3 to arrive with instructions. Thats all you gotta do. You can check on here or the USCIS website about how to prepare it. Some Embassies require different things. Just follow the instructions and good luck!! :star:

That's how it was in our case.

I send Affidavit of support along with supporting documents to my finance and they ask her for them at her interview in Warsaw, Poland.

Remember, it is better to have too many documents than not enough.

I send her the forms, letter from employer, and tax return copy for last year and some other things i don't remeber :)

They are listed in the forms instructions.

Great, thanks for the info! One more question. On the form it looks as though it has to be signed not only by myself, but also by an 'Officer Administering Oath.' Does that mean I have to get the affidavit signed by someone at the local USCIS office?

No, a notary public can do this

YMMV

Just send it to your fiancee because she'll need to present it at the interview. I e-mailed the consulate in advance to see if I needed to bring (I accompanied my husband) 3 W2s/tax returns with me, but because of my income I was told one was enough. HOWEVER, I'd suggest sending the past 3 years just in case. CYA.

As to your question about the notary - I'd also suggest having this done twice so you have two copies. That's what I did.

Good luck.
