I sent a personal check--it must have been fine because they cashed it.

Many people here(at VJ) record on their timelines when their personal check was cashed. I sent my application in February and the check was cashed in March. I don't think the rules have changed since then. You must have gotten a grumpy worker!

Our I-129F application was returned yesterday after 18 days. I sent the application to the Omaha, NE address and I was supposed to send it to USCIS/NSC, PO Box 87130, Lincoln, NE 68501-7130. Also they said that they cannot accept personal checks and that it has to be a Cashier's Check or a Money Order. I am resending today overnite mail with a notification for delivery. So we're back to square one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... I also had my packet returned the first time my babe sent, in October 2005!

He went to Des Moines Sub-Office personally and the officer "checked" the documentos and told him he could let the petition there because they would send that to Nebraska. (I wonder why that guy told Chris that!)

Anyway, we noticed it was taking too long for us to receive the 1st NOA and Chris called there and couldn't talk to anybody. So, about one month later Chris decided to come back there to see where was the petition and the guy told they had'nt sent it to Nebraska because Chris had forgotten his form G-325... They told he could send this by mail to them, what he did! But another month had passed and any answer...

Chris called again and nobody said anything.

Some days later, the petition was sent back to Chris... They asked for the form that he had already sent and also for my translated divorce paper! (He had sent only the document in portuguese)

That was really stressful!

So, we got my document translated by a sworn translator and attached the missing form. Finally sent this in January to Nebraska and my process has been done in the normal way so far.

That's good that they didn't make you wait for almost three months like they did with us! I'm sure you'll be fine now!!

I wish you the best of luck this time. I know your feeling. Mine was also returned the firt time I sent it in. I sent the wrong amount $. They took my personal check, don't know why they wouldn't take yours.

Note that USMA incorrectly sent the petition to a District Office, and it was the District Office that said personal checks are not acceptable. I expect that the note was stating the local policy, not necessarily speaking for another facility.

My Sub Office also does not accept personal checks.

I submitted my application on 5/2 and sent in a personal check to the Vermont Center. Has anyone else sent one to Vermont and had any problems with it? Maybe tomorrow morning my bank statement will show it's been cleared...
