I need to travel as soon as possible for an emergency but I just noticed my US passport is expiring in about one month.

Will I have problems traveling out of the US and into the Caribbean?

Also, what happens if my passport expires while I am still overseas?

Will I be able to go to a US embassy abroad and get a document or something I can travel back to the US on with my expired passport ?

Anyone with any experience ?

If you have an emergency you should go to your nearest passport agency and they will expedite it.

I have also heard of people being prevented from from boarding international flights if passport is expiring before your return ticket.

I do not think you can renew your passport abroad unless you reside in the area the embassy covers.

Good luck

Thanks for all the help.

I got off the phone with my local clerk of the court where we apply for passports and they said that the expedited process will still take at least 2-3 weeks and the only two options were to drive directly to the agency about 450 miles away in person and present my scenario or to use an online rush service she recommended.

I just got everything completed online here and I will have a new passport by tomorrow evening at latest.

I wonder why the government doesn't just offer this directly ?

Oh I know why.....It would be too logical, it would make sense, it would be too easy and organized and it would mean that people would actually get definite timelines on when to expect results.....

All goals that are not important to them.....

Good thing you took care of it.

BTW....if your passport expired while in the Caribbean, they would not let you back in the US until you visited the nearest embassy and took care of it.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
