Corner Gas runs out of gas

Canwest News Service

Published: Friday, April 11, 2008

CTV'####### comedy series, Corner Gas, is calling it quits after its upcoming sixth season.

Production on the final 19 new episodes, to be broadcast on CTV and The Comedy Network in 2008-09, begins May 15 in Regina and Rouleau. The series' finale will air in spring 2009.

"It's a very difficult decision, but the right decision, and one I felt I had to make," said the star of the series, Brent Butt, in a statement released Thursday.

"When I told CTV about my decision, they made it clear that they were keen to do more seasons," said Butt, who is also a writer, director and executive producer of the sitcom about life in small town Saskatchewan. "They didn't want it to end yet. But for the good of the show, I wanted to exit gracefully, on top of our game, when we're at our prime -- because that's how I want viewers to remember Corner Gas: At its very best."

Corner Gas has won six Gemini Awards, including Best Comedy Series, and has been nominated for numerous other awards including an International Emmy Award, Director's Guild of Canada Awards, Canadian Screenwriting Awards and Canadian Comedy Awards.

The program is seen in more than two dozen countries, including Finland,Australia and the USA

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

This is such sad news it is a FANTASTIC show, love it. I can see Brent Butts' reasoning behind calling it quits but if you have ever lived in a small town in Canada it is so true to life. Hope he comes up with something else and also hope if he does that it gets picked up in the US.

Its not the matter of another company picking it up, the creator wants to end it, while its on top! CTV wanted to do more. Oh well, everything comes to an end!!
