I dont think that you know what living in a MENA is even like....the last time I was in Saudi...the women were all dressed in black bags...and the religious police would come out and beat them with sticks if they were alone or out after hours...

You stated that I, as a MENA woman, would be lucky to have an American man like you. You stated I would have to stop walking around in public wearing a black bag and assimilate. Since I don't wear black bags and that was the only time, I asked you about it. It's not an analogy. I usually wear jeans and a sweater or something like that. Should I change that for... what? He;lp me in what's more American than my jeans. Also, I'm not really sure how I am supposed to assimilate into American culture. My accent? Well I speak in a Western accent since I'm from the Western US. Should it be... Midwestern? My religion? Well I'm a Christian so maybe I should change to... Deist like a founding father?

As far as dually guy, here's the thing. I was in my lane, minding my own business when he tried to merge into me and then was mad that he couldn't BE in my space. So he took out his agression on me for being in my space. You have come into the MENA forum and seem to like to ####### on everyone here and then tell us we'd be lucky to have you , and if you are as you appear in MENA, then you're a verbally bashing person. So are you saying we'd be lucky to be degraded by someone like you every day? I think I have a different relationship standard. I thought it was American, but maybe it's French for all I know now since I'm apparently not assimilated.

Heehee. Actually, He's pretty funny. I like the part where he uses KSA as the standard for what the whole ME is like. That's like visiting Mexico and then using that to judge all of North America.

wow, this thread is on a very bad tangent. I don't mean to speak for Donna but I think part of what she is saying is that yes there are ignorant idiots in the US but there are ignorant idiots everywhere......then the convo starting spiraling. lol

I saw this story when it was aired on TV and yes it is very touching and give you hope. I've heard some seriously stupid comments from my family and I would've never thought I would hear them from my family. So it's been an enlightening, sad time for me. I'm not Muslim but my husband is but guys don't have it as tough as women.

I know when I was in Jordan, a cab driver said something very untoward to my husband about me and he was very very very angry so it does happen everywhere and it's wrong wherever it happens.

I probably should have ignored her comments, but I think that her comments were typical of the people in the video (the majority) who did nothing. Who said nothing. It's disgraceful because it allows discrimation to continue. Her very first post said

I agreed. I am offended by discrimanatory treatment wherever it happens. I didn't comment to that post because I don't live anywhere else. I live here in the USA. So I address injustices at home. The video was about injustices here in the USA. I didn't respond to the post because it didn't appear to be immediately relevant to the discussion at hand.

However, she continued and posted the following:

These comments offended me. "just get over it" What?! Is that what you tell your children? It's just how it is, just get over it? NO. It's wrong. It shouldn't happen. It's not okay. It's NOT acceptable behavior. People don't have the right to discriminate or oppress in this country. Further, even if they did, having a right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do. It's lazy to say, just deal with it.
