Does anyone know from personal exprience how long it takes from the day of your interview til actually getting the Visa?? And if it's not the same day.....why do they make you wait?? Do they tell you the day of the interview if you're getting the Visa? Or do they keep you in suspense til it's actually in your hands? Thanks in advance for your replies!!!!!!

It usually takes a couple of days to a week because they have to do another name check which is like a background check, they have to prepare all your documents that you show at the point of entry and their machine has to print the visa on the passport. They do tell you on the day if and when you will get the visa

At the interview they should have given you a date to come back and collect the visa. Normally they will give you a slip of paper with a date on it.

What was your fiance told? Was he told he was approved? When was your interview?

No, he hasn't gone for his interview yet. Its in about 10 days. But I saw a posting about someone having to wait 120 days after going for interview. I then started reading similar posts and ppl have been put on AP. I don't know what that is, but it doesn't sound good. Some have waited 6 months longer after interview. By the way, I've now decided to use a co-sponsor, which I don't feel is necessary, but I figure, it can't hurt. I know the co-sponsor has to fill out the I-134 also, but do you know if it can be a copy of it or does it have to be the original. I'm thinking I could scan and email to him rather than send it and risk it not getting there on time. so many worries.....my head is turning kolo...

A name check on who.......me or my Nigerian fiance? Do they call to verify my employment, etc?? Should I alert my supervisor that someone from the embassy may be calling??

At the interview stage AP (administrative processing - basically name checks) is done on the beneficiary. In most cases, AP is completed before the interview, that is why they can give you a date to come back and pick up the visa. In Middle East and North Africa countries, AP will extend past the interview date and that is why it takes so long for them to get their visas.

I do not think it is all that common in Nigeria for the beneficiary to go under AP. It does happen, but it is not as common as in MENA. When he goes for the interview he will be told whether he was approved and if he still needs to go through AP, they will tell him right there and then.

THe I-134 needs to be an original and it needs to be notarized. They most likely will not accept a scanned copy.

You have no idea how helpful you are being to me. Not even just me.....to my fiance abroad as well. Thank you for clarifying that for me and setting my mind at some ease. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

They have your social security number, you have been verified and checked already before NOA2 approval. Any checks at the embassy level will be associated with your fiance.

It took my husband 15 days total including weekends to get this visa. We would have had it sooner but the easter holiday prevented it. No problem as long as he got it :) They did tell him the day of the interview when to come back. So our

My husband went on that day and there were many people there. He got a lil afraid that they "would run out of visa's" :) But they called his name and he went up to get it. Also they did a lecture for the whole group about how the POE will be and how they will be asked for certain paperwork and how to apply for AOS and an EAD card once they are in the states and gave him all the forms to do it all. I cant tell you how thankful I am for that because sometimes my husband thinks i am making stuff harder than it has to be or even that im being fed misinformation. So now someone else was telling how it goes and I want have to stress. haha

Seven days for us, he was told that they had so many visas to be issued. That they had a backlog. Hope that is not the case at the present time. GOOD LUCK on the upcoming interview :thumbs::thumbs:

We know several people who just went thru the interview in Lagos, in the last month or so...(not just from VJ) It seems it has taken about 5 working days to get visa in hand, which does not include Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There are also several VJ members having Naija interviews soon, hopefully they will share the details.

God Bless (L)
