Hi all

I've started to plan for my fiancee's travel to the U.S. from Manila and I needed some help in finding a good deal on a one way ticket to the U.S. Someone mentioned to me that the airline ticketed needed to be purchase by me here in the U.S. in order for her to be able to use it. However, someone on VJ stated that I would be able to find a ticket at a much lower cost if she purchased it there in the Philippines. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on this? Thanks.

I bought my ticket in Manila through a travel agency. Its cheaper and travel tax was included in the total cost. Try to ask your fiancee to contact Angelo at WINLINK AGENCY at cell phone number +639204370012. He's a very realible person. I was in Singapore at the time I purchase ticket from him but eveything went well. I can give u his email add as well so u can email him.

Good luck,

My wife, or fiancee at the time, flew here from China rather than the Philippines. In our case it was much cheaper for her to buy a ticket in China. I wanted her to fly Northwest Airlines as she could make Saint Paul her port of entry. The price quoted by the airline was quite high. A travel agent quoted a price slightly more than half the airline quote. My wife was able to get the same ticket in China for less than one third the airline's quote. She did this through a travel agent in Guangzhou China. Northwest was offering a "Welcome to America" fare through her travel agent. This price was $600 less than the quote from the travel agent I had contacted. She had to show her K1 visa to qualify for the rate. It's possible your fiancee may be able to find a similar deal in Manila.

One way tickets are not always the best way to go. Sometimes they are. I got a one way ticket for my fiancee and it was almost $500 less than a round trip ticket.

I read some thread before that they purchased ticket from the Philippines because its cheaper. In my case, I have a one way ticket CONTINENTAL Airline , it is cheaper for us upon research on internet but travel tax which is P1,620 is not included. I paid the amount at the airport before departure time. If you purchased ticket in the Phillipines, the trave tax is included. If purchased on the internet, mostly, travel tax is not included. Just compare the price of the airlines and let your fiancee research on the travel agency in her hometown. So, GOODLUCK.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I found tickets from Northwest for around $750 one way. I don't know if I am going to do much better than that but I will keep looking. If the members who have gotten one way tickets from Manila to the US don't mind, what prices were you guys able to get? I just want to get an idea of what kind of deal I should expect. By the way, I think I would like to have her arrive in Detroit because I am familiar with the area and the POE there has received pretty good reviews. Thanks for the help.

Have you looked at Kayak.com? It compares a slew of airlines and gives you a comparison with alternate dates. I'd also have your financee look at local travel agencies. Prices vary a lot based on date of flight.

You're luckier than I was. I paid $2,500 for a round trip ticket because it was during Christmas. I didn't have much choice. My financee didn't have much free time except during the holidays.
