Hello all,

I need to know what should I do since I've only filed federal income taxes this year. 2008 was the first time I filed. I am from Puerto Rico. I moved to Florida in January 2007. Before this I always lived in Puerto Rico. There I only filed state taxes, but never had to file federal. What should I submit for the I-864 form? Should I submitt the Puerto Rico income tax returns I filed? Or should I submitt some kind of letter stating I did not file federal income taxes? What should this letter say? Does anybody have a sample letter?

Please provide all the information possible in regards to this matter.

I really appreciate everyones help... Thank you to everyone!!!

I think that you can attach your most recent income tax (2007) and provide the other two from puerto rico (2006 & 2005). I think it's valid because PR is part of US. Also you can attach an explanation where you say that you were living in PR since X year and provide proofs about it (mail letters, bills, lease bills form PR) and that you moved to USA last year...

Sending the last three tax years is an option on the I-864EZ. They ask for only one. Just call and ask if you think you need to send in three years as added insurance. They answer all of my questions and have helped me on 2 different occasions.

Definitely send copies of your 2007 tax return and W2 and just send copies of your state tax returns for 2006 & 2005. I'm sure you're not the first person from PR to file a petition and they're used to seeing that, besides at this point copies of tax returns for 2006 & 2005 are optional.

the easiest thing to do is send in your w2 and 2007 tax return.

attach a copy stating you didn't file federal for 2005 2006 but file state tax.

you include your state tax for those year.

my guess it will acceptable
