I was so excited today I got my interview date. I think what it comes down to is that you just want to be with that person so bad that the excitment overwhelms you. Heck I was checking my email like 5 times a day and I finally got it. Those of you waiting it will come. It took me exactly three weeks to get mine.

Congrats!!! THE USC can attend the interview but doesnt have to. In some countries the USC is strongly encouraged to attend, meaning if they don't go, a successful interview inst likely. But thats not the case for the Cdn consulates. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congratulations!

So you are the only person that goes to the interview?

Your fiancee from the US is not supposed to be there (at the interview in Vancouver) ?

Flame is right- it is optional if your Fiancee/Spouse wants to come. I would have loved Mel to see Vancouver but he couldn't take the time off. I had a great 3 days on my own in Vancouver though.

Congrats on the Interview Penn!!

The interview itself is super fast!!! They ask very basic questions!! Most of ur time at the consulate (which isnt much) is spent waiting. Cheers

My interview was in Vancouver as well.

My wife Karen came with me, I think it was easier with her there. I was nervous but she was calm and cool and the people at the consulate were friendly and cheerful which made the whole process quick and easy. I had the wrong Birth Cert with me so I had to run to Robson St to get another copy done. Even having to do that we were in and out with my visa in hand in less than 3 hours.

I know how you feel! I was so excited when I found out my interview date as well. It took me exactly three weeks as well. I wonder if they would have emailed us if we had not emailed them? Do you think we'll get a hard copy in the mail?

How do you know if you have the right birth certificate? I only had to options a wallet one with just my info and a frameable one with my info, and parents.

You need the large one with your parents names.

Penn-kd,

Yay! You've been worrying about not hearing back from the consulate and finally you have a date! Yay!

I spent an hour yesterday putting every document they required together. I have around five lbs of paperwork in one thick accordion file. Yikes!

One question: the DS 156. We just need to bring one copy with the bar code, right? On the checklist it says, "You must complete in duplicate the form DS-156..." What does that mean? Does it mean photocopy it? Or print off two different ones with two different bar codes?

I was asking myself the same question....Anyone has an idea if a photocopy is ok or if we need to produce 2 distinct DS-156 forms with 2 different bar codes?
