Look for Beng and Carls post about working. You cannot work until AOS is complete. It is illegal. I think the K-3 is different, but it didn't look like that was you.

Please fill in your time line.

For a "K" recipient the information highlighted above is not correct. A K-1 is work authorized upon arrival for the first 90 days. If the K-1 recipient receives the EAD stamp on there I-94 at entry they can work. After marriage or if you are a K-3, the alien spouse will file for adjustment of status and work authorization. In most cases a EAD is issued within 60 -90 days of application and typically many months before the AOS process is complete.

Looking at your timeline, you can apply for SSN even without work permit. One of the reasons why an applicant needs at least EAD to acquire SSN is when their I-94 is close to expiring.

I'd suggest that you apply for the SSN now. Just bring all the pertinent documents like your passport with I-94 and birth certificate. Don't wait any longer.

I recommend you apply for Social Security card before you get married. My wife was denied social security card because her K1 was no longer valid after getting married. You can always change the name later.
