G-28 question

hello to all. i am preparing a k1 package for a friend. when i filled out the i-129f at the bottom i signed as the preparer. it asks for g-28 number. i read the directions for the g-28 but i am still confused. what is the purpose of the g-28 and do i need to fill it out and send it with the i-129f package?

not familiar with this but guessing its a lawyers id # but you are saying you know first hand of everything you posted for them, are you sure you want to do this and why didnt they do for themselves

You sparked my curiousity, so I did some searching...

Attorneys and other approved representatives of applicants/petitioners must file a Form G-28, Notice of Appearance. The G-28 must be properly completed and signed by the affected party. The term "affected party" refers to the petitioner or the applicant depending on the type of request. The signed G-28 should be stapled to the top of the form being filed. If multiple applications are submitted for other family members or for different applicants/petitioners, make sure that a separate G-28 is submitted for each affected party. To minimize the potential for error, the G-28 should be attached to each and every application and petition filed.

That website is detailing the requirements for a K-1 with Jamaica. I'm only assuming it can be extrapolated as a general statement.

Note that I am not an expert, but my interpretation is that since you filled out the forms, you have become a representative of the petitioner, and need to fill out the G-28 as if you were a lawyer.. Of course, you could let your friend fill out the forms using your copy as an example, and not worry about it..

if thats true then all correspondence of the case would go back thru the rep not the person not sure i would want this even with my BEST friend

The G28 is the form that a lawyer send to USCIS when the person who was petitioned already is in USA. If you file your best friend's forms you can help him file the forms but you don't sign it and it appears like they do it by themselves, or if you put your personal information as a preparer you can put NONE in g28 number.

When I arrived to USA I asked to my lawyer about G28 and he didn't do anything about this form; I went to my local USCIS office and the lady told me that it form is to be file for lawyers...
