USA is having a mortgage/housing crisis and now Canada has its already opened Timmys rim crisis. Whats next??

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well, I click the link and I see a headline about the NS Premier encouraging people to boycott Mexico.

If anyone is interested still, here's the original Tim's rim article I had to search for:

Some Nova Scotians believe Tim Hortons employees are rolling up the rim to rip them off.

But the company is apologizing for a manufacturing error that makes it appear someone has tampered with the rims of some of its disposable coffee cups in Atlantic Canada.

"When I take off my top, I’ve been noticing the rim has already been rolled up, and a lot of people have been noticing that," said Richard O’Brien, a construction worker from Halifax.:whistle:*snarf* (sorry, couldn't resist a larf at that!)

Cars, powerboats, global positioning systems, gift cards, coffees and doughnuts are among the prizes up for grabs.

He figures employees from the ubiquitous coffee chain are checking under the rims to try to win prizes for themselves or their friends.

"I’d say it would be the back shifts that are doing it," Mr. O’Brien said.

"As soon as you take the top of the cup off, you can see two little crimps in the sides where they just flipped it up to see if it was a winner."

He won a few free coffees and doughnuts after the annual contest started Feb. 25, but lately the free crullers have been few and far between.

"I work on a construction site and nobody has been winning," Mr. O’Brien said.

Ches Brushett, a home inspector from Fairview, said he bought five coffees for family members last week at a Dartmouth Tim Hortons.

But when they rolled up their rims, there was nothing there — not even the dispiriting Please Play Again message.

"At the very bottom, you can see less than a millimetre of black ink," Mr. Brushett said. "But you can’t tell what it is. It looks like they were cut off where the writing’s supposed to be."

That left Mr. Brushett scratching his head and wondering if he missed out on a prize.

"I could have won the car but (lost out) because this got messed up and misprinted," he said. "Or maybe there was a car on it, and somebody cut it off. I don’t know.

"How do we know if we get another cup it won’t be the same thing? They say manufacturer’s defect. But are they recalling them and sending out more?"

In an e-mail, Tim Hortons spokeswoman Rachel Douglas said the company has "identified a minor manufacturing issue that may lead customers to think their rim is rolled up but in fact it has not been."

The problem cropped up "with a small number of roll-up-the rim-to-win cups in Atlantic Canada," Ms. Douglas said.

"Because of this minor issue, customers may have obtained a cup that appears to be rolled up or puckered along the rim. This can only be for Please Play Again, or in some cases a food prize, as all major prize cups (i.e. car, boat, GPS, $50 Tim Card) are inspected by hand before distribution into the contest. We have taken steps to remedy this situation. Redemption levels of major prizes are on track compared to previous years, and this minor issue has not impacted the odds of winning a prize. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Mr. O’Brien doesn’t buy that explanation.

"They’re just trying to cover their butts," he said.

So far this year, Timmy’s fans in Nova Scotia have won three cars, four speedboats, 52 GPS units and 106 $50 gift cards.

As for Mr. O’Brien, he’s stopped buying coffee at Tim Hortons. Instead he’s getting his java jolts from Robin’s Donuts, which has a similar contest.

"I’m winning every day at Robin’s," he said.
