Hi there,

We just received our visa last week and I had some questions about the information and dates on it. The visa reads:

Visa valid to 6 September 2008

Petition valid to 16 June 2008

What do the two dates mean? Can my fiance travel to the USA anytime between now September? What is the purpose of the June date? I believe we sent in our original application for the fiance visa about 1 year ago June 16. Is that June date a reference to that?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Generally speaking the petition is valid for 4 months within which time the visa is normally issued (provided you do what's required in packets 3 and 4). However, the embassy's automatically extend this time if the delay is caused by them (generally because of a backlog) and the end date is not considered 'critical'. Your visa is valid for 6 months for one entry - meaning you can travel to the US at the latest on Sept 6th in your case. After which you will have 90 days to get married and then you can file for AOS. So, get a ticket for your fiancee prior to Sept 6th and forget the petition date - you are beyond that stage now and need to focus on the next step. Don't worry about every little thing and try to enjoy the arrival of your fiancee. good Luck
