But you'll be surprised if you go to Baguio and rode a taxi there, the drivers will give you the exact change after paying the fare. Very uncommon say as compared to other urban areas in the Philippines...

This is really true this is one thing I am proud of about this place, I was born and raised in Baguio, first thing that my husband noticed is they give the exact change but some taxi cab drivers who came from another place are doing the same but its rare.......

In Manila most taxi drivers are "garapal" so first thing you do before going inside the taxi is to best negotiate the exact amount regardless if they have the meter

taxi in manila is the worst, makes me sick! im from cdo and the moment you take a seat they will automatically run the meter, no questions ask whether you're a foreigner or not. (except in the airport coz its a different thing which is understandable) but just around the city they will never make a contract or blindsided you that ones the taxi is running, they will suddenly drop the price without running the meter. gosh especially that im with a white guy who shines so darn obvious lol (he's a cute one too lol)... from roxas (bayview hote) we hale a taxi and they let us in and once the taxi was running he suddenly told us that its P1000 to makati! wth!!! we were like "no freakin way" and we argue and he stop in the gasoline station and started taking our luggage out of his car... we hale another taxi and asked him before we got in to run his meter and he said ok but asking for extra (we said yes we'll give him a tip if he run his meter)... but still he doesnt want to drive us in makati and my husband was so frustrated already that he just decided to just take us to the heritage hotel and spend there for a night before our flight to naga... what a nightmare!

After hearing from all of you, I now fully understand akin babae dislike for taxi drivers. We had a nasty encounter/argument that climaxed with the driver nearly refusing to let us out. He just stopped in the middle of a three lane road, trying to teach us a lesson. With my very limited knowlege of Tagalog, it was sorta scary. At my babae demand, he did end up pulling up to a waiting taxi.
