I sent a card to my hubby in Naija, back in November 2006! And to this day he has never recieved it! I sent it without telling him...and he later told me never to send anything thru regular mail because of where he lives. He said that if u live in an area that isnt near businesses or is too far out from major streets, the mail won't be delivered because they don't want to have to look for an address they are not familiar with. If he had known I had sent it he could have gone the postal office...but even then it gets thrown in with hundreds of other mail and may be impossible for them to find. They also go thru mail and steal stuff, or throw it out. When I send him stuff thru Fedex or DHL...I always send it to his dad's office which is in a business district, and I have never had a problem with him getting it.

God Bless (L)

Oh my gosh!! Bassi has always gotten his mail, but he lives in Accra which is a big city. It's only been an issue of timing and I didn't want to take a chance with this paperwork so I budgeted to spend too much money to send it just so I'd have the peace of mind knowing it would be there within a specific timeframe.

Well, update on Bassi and Akai House. He went back yesterday and they told him to come back today. The gentleman he spoke with today told him that whoever told him that it would be mailed to the embassy made a mistake. In fact, he is supposed to call after two weeks to see if it's ready and then pick it up. So I said, if you didn't go back, would they have sent it on to the embassy? No. So, if he didn't have a nutso fiance in america who nagged him to go back to the clinic and tell them that she'll be on the next flight if they don't fix this, we would have been SCREWED! So, he's humbly thanking me for being so persistent and I'm milking it for all it's worth! Crisis averted. On to the next challenge.

That is great news. When in doubt, ask VJ :D

Yeah! Mr. Ray at Trinity said, this all started with that fellow from Kumasi. So, Bassi asked who is that. I told him it's Afenab from Kumasi who first told us Ghana filers about Mr. Ray and the best process for the medicals. Bassi said he told Mr. Ray, all I know is my wife says blah blah blah blah go and do it! So, I have to keep the peace and go and do it! He's lucky he's across the ocean or he'd get a bop for that. :bonk:

:) Zainab that was close though. I hate when things like that happen. Thats why Im so paranoid. My husband is so happy go lucky and I feel like a fiend for nagging him about stuff but then disasters are avoided and he thanks me, but Im still the one stressing and he is still the happy go lucky one. I guess we balance each other out. I dont like him stressing. He cant handle. he goes overboard.

As for mail I have never used anyone else but usps and him living in accra is great. They are very professional, even though he has a box in akosombo. Now, cameroon was another story.

I've used the USPS several times when sending things to Nigeria and so far there have been no problems.

In Nigeria you can not bring any cell phone into the interview, however you can pay the employees that work outside to hold your phone, they do check for cell phone and such before your allowed in.

*** for clarification***

I have dealt with the Consulate in Nigeria on several occasions. If you are a Nigerian going in for your interview, the Nigerian Security Team will hold your personal items including cells phones for a fee, you can recognise them by the Uniforms that they wear. The "Commading Officer" has a tent with a desk and a chair also several benches, up towards the corner on the grassy area. (not near the sandy area where most people wait, up the road from that area)When you retrive your items that is when you will pay. If you enter to the "American side" you will check your personal items including cell phone before you go through the metal detectors, after you are through the first door and you have proven to the guard that you are an American OR a Nigerian who has an appoinment on the "American side"(and can prove the appoinment) you may retrive them on your way back out. (NO FEE) The restrooms are located just on the inside of the "American side" you will need to show your Passport and surrender cell phone before you can use the restroom. Hope that helps :)

I know what you mean about men, and why won't they listen? My husband isn't African - so it doesn't have to do with that :innocent: ...

He waited until the day before we flew to Rio de Janeiro (far from his home) to get the last vaccine. I told him again and again and again...and he just kept putting it off. He drove me crazy...hehehe

But it all worked out  .

Good luck!

Hey Do you guys know if you can bring cell phones and other electronic devices in embassy?

no you can't bring your cell in the embassy, the security use plastic bowls for everyone to put their phone in. You will get it back when you are finished, I wondered if I was really going to get mine back because everyone puts theirs in the same bowl, anyone could take it. But don't worry, both times I was at the embassy, there were no problems. I also had my camera in my bag, they made me give it to them as well. They will know if you don't give them the electronic devices because you and your purse or bag have to go through screening, like at the airports.

I am looking forward to hearing the outcomes of your interview and also Zee's, I'm so excited for you two.
